There are only a few times in my life that I have actually felt elation during an Olympic event.... One time was when that girl stuck that landing on one foot. Another was when I watched Michael Johnson break the 200m record in his gold shoes. However, another one of those moments was watching the USA make that comeback in the swim relay the other night...

Whats your favorite memory... I understand some of you don't really like the Olympics, but I, for one, do...

for some reason, I distinctly remember watching Roy Jones get hosed in the boxing competition and even the South Korea??? fighter realizing that he should not have won.

Followed very closely by the entire two weeks of the original Dream Team games!

(You didn't specify Summer or Winter . . . so I hedged.)

Big one (to me) that comes to mind:

The whole "Dan vs. Dave" huge Reebok Olympic promo cr@p from the '92 Summer Games. That's all that was shoved down your throat no matter what sporting event you watched 6 months prior to the game. Dave didn't make even make the Olympic team, and Dan sucked that year (but of course did well in '96). It was just so anti-climactic and a vain attempt at marketing.

The archer lighting the torch in Barcelona was a cool non-athletic Olympic moment.

Ben Sheets shutting down Cuba in 2000 with Tom Lasorda at the helm.

I don't really remember the USA vs. Russia hockey game, but it is still one of my favorites. I have seen the replay.

The Dream Team. I don't have a favorite NBA team, so it was really easy for me to root for all of them.

Strug nailing that vault might be my most memorable, and the relay the other night was great, but I also loved it when Rulon Gardner took down Karelin after that 5 minute "I am Russia, I read philosophy" montage. </p>

Besides Katarina Witt flashing bush, I have to go with the original Dream Team. Not any one moment stands out to me, it was just enjoyable seeing the greatest collection of basketball players ever destroy everyone in their path.

Saw it live. That bastard could fly.

Another moment was waking up from a hangover and hearing that I left downtown Atlanta literally 20 minutes before the bomb went off. Could have turned out to be a much cooler story if my buddy didn't want to go home early. Damn it.

Lots of good ones, most of my favorites already named above, but as far as "moments" go, Ali with the torch was a good one.

You don't realize just how invincible the Soviets seemed at the time. They destroyed an NHL all-star team the fall before, and beat the U.S. 10-3 in an exhibition just three weeks before that.

I still get goosebumps watching the game on ESPN Classic.

Distant second-Franz Klammer winning the downhill in 1976. The Olympics were held in Innsbruck, Austria. Klammer, an Austrian, was the favorite to win, and he had the pressure of the whole nation riding on his shoulders. His downhill run was one of the wildest, close-to-the-edge runs I've ever seen. He always seemed like he was going to crash. At the end, he won.

Most MSU-like Olympic moment-The refs giving the Soviets the basketball game against the U.S. in 1972. I was pissed when I saw that live, and I was only 10. If it wasn't for the Palestinian terrorists murdering the Israelis, that Olympics would've been known as the "one where the Eastern Bloc <17>ed over the Americans" (not only that basketball game, but they changed starting times on American runners so they'd disqualify, they gave decisions to Eastern Euro boxers who were bloodied by Americans because they landed more blows than the U.S., etc.

the other night was the most MSU like moment in the Olympics. Maybe only because it's fresh in my mind.

Edit to say that Bela Karolyi (sp? gymnastics dude) accusing China of having underage gymnasts was the most Genespage moment in Olympic history.

that screwed over every USA boxer. We had to fight him as well as the other boxer. I remember one fight every time our guy would get the Cuban against the ropes and pound the crap out of him the ref would stop the fight to look at OUR guy's eye.

Tim Dagget remarking that the Chinese womens gymnastics team are like sisters then observing "and that is something that rarely happens in this country."

Ali lighting the torch was a low point in Olympic history. A cowardly, draft-dodging, POS being honored was a slap in the face to every man or woman who has defended this country. Screw that cowardly bastard.

hitting all 10's was a favorite. Also, Greg Louganis smacking his head on the diving board was also a favorite from a sick point of view.
