I really like Forrest Williams. Great coach. And that St. Stanislaus team had a couple of pretty good WR's to throw to- Krisjohn Wilkerson and Boomer Scarbrough. Among others.

They were the last team to beat Lafayette.

who USM's new coach is. No doubt Favre is going to have to show out in JUCO.

If I had to guess, I could see him at USM in a best case scenario for him and most likely at Louisiana-Lafayette or South Alabama. If I remember correctly, Tulane had some interest in him- but that is a coaching staff that is gone now.

If he has a bad year at PRCC, I wouldn't be shocked if he ends up at Delta State or even quit football.

I would be surprised if USM wouldn't take him as a walk-on. That's like Ole Miss not letting a Manning on the team.

I don't think anyone goaded Dan to give him a scholarship. We needed a QB, we lost out on Cam, Brunetti (I think), Hutson Mason, and maybe even some other people. I think Dan knew he probably wasn't going to make it, but he had some really good stats, his team won with him, and he has a name that would draw some headlines and I'm sure Dan knew that a lot of MSU fans seem to like Brett Favre for God whatever reason. Heck- maybe it could cause Brett to donate some money. And who knows? Maybe he does work out. Obviously it didn't. But I don't think it was a bad decision on our coaches part.

and even farther between when they do not have time to make plays. Mississippi is so far behind on the offensive side of the ball compared to other states, I would be careful about expecting ANY QB from this state to do anything at the D-1 level and then it will likely be after 2 to 3 years of under-study in a system. Favre only gave it 1.5 years and 1 was a redshirt year. I believe and someone please correct me if I am wrong, but hasn't Bama's last 3 QBs been Juniors before getting to start. Exactly how many 5'11" Freshmen/Redshirt Freshmen are there out there putting up large numbers in D-1 ball these days anyway?

If we want a QB like Aaron Murray or Tyler Wilson, or even AJ McCarron, we ain't finding them in Mississippi. And if we bring Forrest Williams in or even Anthony Alford, they better be told they will likely be Juniors before they see significant playing time...and they better practice on running for their lives if we think the state of Mississippi is going to supply offensive linemen to protect them as freshmen or redshirt freshmen.

redshirting and developing players. I'm not sure who has the most complex offense in Mississippi, but whomever it is, I can guarantee that their offense is not as complex as ours- or any other D-I school. Add in unfamiliar players, better more complex defenses and just adjusting to college life in general- and then we have a fairly impatient fanbase when it comes to QB's. Just being honest. We always want to try the next "real deal" and see what happens and toss away the other guy. But at most schools, like anything else- they typically play upperclassmen. It's really rare to see a freshman QB start and perform well in the SEC.

Funny thing about Dan and the two QB system- it's actually made our fans more patient with our QB situation it seems like.

As far as Mississippi- we're a small state, and we just don't produce viable QB prospects every year. A guy like Tyler Russell is pretty rare for Mississippi. He's legitimately the best QB prospect to come through Mississippi in awhile. If he was a senior in high school, I'm 100% sure he would be the top QB prospect in the state this year. Some of that is the coaches. Some of it is lack of population. Some of it is kids whose families can't afford to send them to QB camps in some parts of the state.

Alford is going to be a RB/Center fielder. I take that back- he is going to be a center fielder.

There are plenty of o-linemen in Mississippi. Our problem is our dumbass last coach thought that he could bring in one or two a year and be OK. But like QB's, they have to be developed.

But very few if any of them can be legitimate as even sophmores in college because they come from systems that are 80% run and even in the ones that throw it around the lot, if you watch many of those offenses the QBs have success with the quick wr screens or the short 5 yard to 8 yard pass and then the wr outruns everybody. Rare to see a QB in MS that just sits back there for 4 seconds and waits for a 20 yd out or a seam route to pop. We have a lot more mobile QBs because we have athletes playing QB where, as you point out, the more populated states have lots of pocket QBs and actually have QBs playing the position.

Alford had absolutely NO time to do anything today. Williams would have likely fared no better. As much as it is the system, it is also the opposition on Friday nights in Mississippi as well. Way too many really bad teams playing against a few limited, but somewhat talented teams in this state. I most regions, the separation from the top 2 or 3 teams to numbers 4, 5 or 6 is huge. And usually numbers 6, 7 and 8 are horrible. Makes talent evaluation that much harder, especially when in some cases, the most talented players play for mediocre teams like Whitehead at Amanda Elzy or a DB from Stone County or South Jones or a Tight End from say Gentry or maybe a linebacker at a middle of the pack team or even a Cordarrly Gaines at Provine this year.
