Things are starting to become more clear for what jobs could potentially come open as teams have played 5 or 6 games now. Just my thoughts:

Big 12:

Kansas, Kansas State

B1G:

Nebraska

Pac:

Oregon State, Arizona State

SEC:

Tennessee, Ole Miss is already open

Riley will go back home to Oregon State and redeem himself.

Tennessee?

Yes, if he continues to lose. 0-2 in divisional play. They play South Carolina on Saturday. If he loses, things could get ugly. If he wins, then he is still safe.

South Carolina
Alabama
Kentucky
USM
Missouri
LSU
Vandy

He will need to go 4-2 in conference play just to reach 4-4. If he can reach 4-4, then the regular season record is bound to be 7-5, which will likely be enough to keep his job for another year.

The room for error is pretty tight for him.

This might be a great year to hire a coach - not a lot of high-profile openings expected. Tennessee might be the only other major opening, possibly UCLA, but that's really about it for "big-name" schools.

LSU and Arkansas have massive buyouts, so I think they'll give their coaches another year. I think A&M give Sumlin one more year too. If we give Riley one more year, we're going to have a lot more competition should we be looking for a coach then.

If you have a chance to get the guy you want, you have to pull the trigger. Think of when the Cubs fired their manager after only a year because Joe Maddon became available. Timing is everything.

Yep. Frost and Matt Campbell should be near the top of any list.

Yep. Schools like Arkansas and Texas A&M are a year away assuming poor results next season due to the buyouts.

I don't see anymore than 2 or 3 big name schools opening up as we enter the middle stretch of October. Obviously things can still go south for some schools, but most of the time you will already know at this time of the season.
