FC/OT: LSU Women’s Bball coach Kim Mulkey seems worried about an article about to be published…

Typical silliness from you. It’s a shame because you are a good poster in my opinion (in my apparently fallible opinion?) until it comes to anything about a coach. Then it’s just blind faith in the coach.
Forgive me Father for l have sinned!
I don’t need to read the article to know she’s a POS, but I am interested to see what they write about her. It likely won’t be enough to get her canned, but it will likely be enough to solidify my opinion of her. When a team consistently has no class, there’s a good chance that the coach has no class (hello Dawn Staley as well).
A national champion as a player, and an asst. Coach, a 4 time National Champion as a head coach plus an Olympic Gold medal winner. Perhaps I might lean on the side of supporting coaches.....but a piece of ****? Really? We are talking class?

The best girls basketball player I’ve ever coached played for Dawn at Temple. I’m going to agree with your last comment, Dan, a very good coach, but leaves a lot to be desired as a person according to my former player. And this isn’t some player that has an axe to grind because she didn’t play either. you’ll find that these high profile women’s basketball coaches are bigger jerks than the men coaches.

You haven’t sinned because you blindly trust coaches, you just lose credibility.

Right - he gave her two years to comment and address things on the record. She refused and is now lawyering up. Tell me you have something to hide without telling me you have something to hide…
So, if someone comes to you repeatedly (2 year chase) and you tell them no, you're not interested, you feel they're "obligated" to answer them? I don't know her and she may be a POS but, IMHO, I don't think she's compelled to speak with him at all.

So because she wins, she must be classy??? Got it.

She’s certainly under no obligation - point is she had a chance to get her story on the record and didn’t. So, she’s not a victim despite her claims otherwise.

I agree with what you’re saying, but you also can’t really complain about the message that is going to be sent out when you declined to offer a different option.

The article to which Mulkey referred wasn't about Kelly. It was about LSU, it's priorities, how it treats African Americans, and their existence in the Baton Rouge community. Kelly and his fat contract were used as a counterpoint for comparison. There no was discussion of him per se.

Reading Comp a la La Tech.

But we saw how well kelly fits in at lsu. We heard him speak “southern”, and we saw him dance. He’s bayou through and through.

Two words for you: Bo Schembechler. Just because somebody is an excellent coach doesn’t make them a good person.

I know almost nothing about WBB, Mulkey and the LSU women's program. I never would have even seen or paid attention this article for one second, until Mulkey decided to "get in front of it" by calling a ton of attention to it. Now I'll probably read it. Doubt that's what she was going for here, but that's what has happened for many.

Well not everyone has the same definition of "class." I acknowledged that her personality or style is abrasive. But, don't you think you may have gone a bit too far when you called her "a piece of ****?"

Give me 10 million a year and I'm anything you want me to be! I'll bet deep down "he's one of us" and he hates himself. LOL

Agreed. Coaches are like every other profession. I strongly believe that high school coaches should be teachers and good role models. College coaches work in a different environment. This coach is a demonstrated winner as a player, assistant coach, Olympian and national champion head coach. You want to criticize her for having "no class." Okay, no one is perfect.

Would have been fun watching him grab a player today. He would be holding pieces of his jaw or knocked out cold.
Well, first of all it's folly to take anything from the past and place it without modification in today's world.
Would any athlete or coach you choose fit seamlessly into today's environment?
Babe Ruth played all day games against all white players and before specialized relief pitchers. Bet he'd suck today.
Assuming Knight would be knocked out today, is at best conjecture and tells me you think we didn't have tough guys in the 60s, 70s and the 80s.
Getting a literal kick in the *** or a twist on the facemask was pretty common when I played. It happened to me and most guys I played with. Things change. Some for the better.
When I played HS ball in Pa. I saw guys get shot up with pain killers, got one myself....by the school doctor before a game.
Do I now hate my coach, the physician? It's the way it was. We're better in many respects. Softer as well.
One day I was pouting in practice because I was taken off the first team defense. We were doing kick returns and I was the deep man. I jogged to the ball and let it bounce to show my frustration. My coach sprinted 50 yard screaming all the while and joined me in my headgear. You know what? It was a lesson well learned and I was better for it. Today? Boo Fn Hoo

I'm not a Michigan fan and all I know is what the media tells me. But there are former players and thousands of Michigan fans who would tell you they don't believe Bo is guilty of anything.....just as we support Joe. We had people make accusations and take money. Sound familiar? All the evidence seems to point at the doctor being a pervert.....but exactly how much should Bo be implicated. He had to know! Heard that before?

Because the truth is an absolute defense against a defamation suit. Of course, if you knowingly publish/broadcast lies, you may wind up owing 9 figure damages. Ask Rupert about that.
Actually, I've always had the impression that if you are considered a "public figure" the media has a great deal of latitude to smear you. If you are a public figure you must prove that the publisher acted with "malice." In other words you must prove that the publisher "knew" what they printed was false. It can be done.....but the threshold is steeper than for John Doe.

No, I think that’s about right. When someone goes beyond the accepted level of classlessness, you enter into the POS realm. It wouldn’t be fair to the rest of the coaches who are just at the normal level to not call her that.

that's precisely why I will tend to believe the Post-they know better than to publish falsehoods

people who try to make "the media" the bad guy are often themselves the bad guy trying to deflect

That dude needed so much therapy it isn't even funny. Bullying people you're left in charge of is the worst type of coward....but hey he won games so let's put him on some pedestal or pretend he wasn't a ticking time bomb. You can't defend the occupation as EVERY occupation has idiots so that is a marshmallow take too.

Nope. I don't care. Remember Sally Jenkins? Tired of the everyone is a victim mentality. We're soft.....it's sad to see what has happened to America.
America being too soft is my biggest fear. I don't feel we have the balls to defend ourselves anymore. Fear some psycho leader will attack or China is constantly planting shiite in our country waiting for the right moment for take over. Taking tinfoil hat off now....

Didn't Sally Jenkins work for WP? She certainly vilified JVP.

or maybe I should just believe the coach because she is threatening to sue?

I go back and forth on this story about the LSU coach that I haven't read yet :) .

Bigger question: yay or nah, wreckability? Seems like nay.

In her younger years, I would have been on her like stink on a monkey.
