They could have easily called a penalty on Miami that last play as he was all over him well before the throw
There were at least 2 no calls on blatant PI on OM in the 1st half . So at least the ref was consistent…

50/50 call of which could be said about many passing plays during the game for both teams. 100% of OM fans are going to forever see that play one way only, as PI. OM fans will see the hand on the shoulder pad and then see a viscious take down and being robbed of a national championship. Miami fans are going to show the OM WR with hands to the face, the WR pulling down the DB's arm as the ball arives, and pull up clips of 3 other calls that were wrong or worse than that no call. OM could show many bad no calls for them as well.

Could it have been called? Yes. At that moment is it usually called? No. The defender would have had to tackle the WR, trip him or shove him with both hands. It was not drastically obvious so no call.

The DB was there first, looking at the ball the whole way and hand fought as if he were the WR. Watch again as if the DB #24 is playing to catch the ball, and has the right to catch the ball. That is what the ref is looking at.

All of this will fall on deaf ears for OM fans. They will see what could have been called and was not.

So that ref down in the bottom corner there is not named Dick Pace? Oh, the humanity!

They could say, and be correct, that the ball was uncatchable. But, if there wasn't PI, would have Chambliss have thrown it out of the back of the end zone? Probably - he didn't have much time to calibrate his throw, and it had to pretty much be a hail Mary, even from where they were on the field.
