He could've written the same article in 1998 when we were planning our expansion to 50,000. We weren't filling the 40,000 regularly at the time. Obviously, the expansion was needed, as was another, and this one will be as well.
The popularity of college football is only growing, even in a down economy. It's going to grow even more when the economy rebounds. As far as the money flowing in, what Calkins doesn't know, or at least didn't ask anyone about, is that the Tad Smith replacement and the NEZ expansion have both been hot buttons for Ole Miss fans for a long time. They're two projects that our fans and boosters have been enthusiastic and ready to see for a long time. Whether we're up or down on the field or court hasn't changed the desire people have had for those two projects.
ETA: He is right about one thing. This does put even more pressure on Nutt to get things back on track. I think he will, but it's going to add pressure.
