I think you and I had this discussion before.

I am an 80's guy, high school 84, college 88. So, mainstream rock was all I knew, throw in the MTV new wave, like Billy idol, Madness, Thompson Twins, but that was it. Missed out on the other stuff. Now, that other stuff gets prominent play on my spotify.

-it wasn't as easy to find stuff back then, you had to be "exposed to it" by someone else.

^always loved music as a kid...had uncles/older brother that introduced me to "classic" stuff. In 7th grade I met a friend that was a skateboard phenom...he turned me on to punk/thrash. Around the same time had another friend whose older brother was at UK...he introduced us to "college rock"/post punk and such. I woulda found it all eventually...but was fortunate to find it early through these folks.

It's funny. Went to small college and mocked the DJ's for playing this stuff, so we ignored it. At reunion, we called them visionaries.

-it's funny you say that...I'm revisiting (have been for a while) a lot of 70's/80's classic stuff/deep tracks that I dismissed as a youth because it wasn't "my scene".

-back to the OP...music hasn't died. It's evolved...there is lots of good stuff in every genre. Just gotta know where to look/keep an open mind.

Music is alive and well. The mainstream music industry might suck more than it used to, but there's great stuff out there being made all the time. In fact, I would argue that there is currently an incredible diversity of available great music that is unmatched by any time in history. Might have to look beyond FM radio, TikTok, or anything that is driven by advertising algorithms to find things that match your taste.

Music cannot die as it is a form of expression and creativity that is constantly evolving. The appreciation and enjoyment of music is subjective and cannot be definitively said to have died on any specific day.

Music is alive and well. You just have to know where and how to find it.
Heck, cover bands make good money playing old stuff. We just played a gig on the west side of Cincy and drew 350-400... playing nothing but classic rock. Only song we play written past 2000 is Shut Up and Dance

I play song trivia two online against others on my phone. Pretty much every year from 1970 to 1990. I score 2500 or more. In the 90s I dropped about 100 points each year. Post 2000 I just guess.

This an app?
I play it on my phone. I have a droid and I say play song trivia two. It is online. If you answer in under 2 seconds you score more than 260. A little more than 2 seconds is 250 and the longer it takes you to answer the less points you get. There are 10 questions per category

No reason to read all this, it’ll be old dudes naming something young kids like and say it’s awful just like their parents did with the music they liked but they’ll swear it’s different… and the cycle goes on forever. 😉

Actually we're talking about how much better Fallout Boy is compared to Chuck Berry.

I’m teasing but that is something that happens with every generation for sure. Kids today will say how much better mumble rap was than whatever is devised next.
