They should make CJF, the coordinators and most of the players receiving huge NIL benefits take a pay cut for performance that does not qualify for financial incentive. Embarrassing display of coaching and playing.they should cancel the flight and make them take a Greyhound home
Good point. That’s a good risk to take. One thing to keep in mind is that the buyout is offset by his next contract.
He’s owed roughly 8 million a year on a buyout. If he takes a job for 6 mil the next year, they only owe the difference. He’s relatively young and almost certainly coach again.
AK is done. It’s just a matter of playing out the season. Franklin will employ his usual playbook: redirect blame to a coordinator who is replaced.I like Coach Franklin. I think he is a good man and has done a lot of good at PSU, but his time has come to leave. We need a fresh perpective....so does he (ala Andy Reid with the Eagles to KC). Just as he was soft during the pandemic, he seems to have checked out now too. Not all his fault though. Coach AK is a major disappointment. I think what he told us when he arrived was he puts his players/talent in the best position to succeed - he hasn't. He's a bust! Jim Knowles is an elite DC, just tried to install too much, too fast with the talent he has.
Also wonder about the wisdom about bringing so many 5th year seniors (except K Allen) back. They too have seemed to lose their focus looking ahead to the NFL. #10 has totally regressed.
OL is a mystery to me. I think it is a problem based on scheme...not talent. Thanks Coach AK.
We were over rated/ranked to start the season. If Franklin stays I'm not sure we can save the season....maybe if he cans AK. AK thinks he is a genius and is much too gimmicky and cute to win any titles or even B10 games.
Lastly, I think the loss of TE Tyler Warren impacted us more than we expected. I thought someone would step up. They haven't.
It’s possible that Kraft is playing a form of hardball by not extending Franklin. Or he may be trying to shorten the contract length in exchange for a higher per-year salary.
PSU has zero leverage with the current deal. It’s an all timer by Sandy, who rode off into the sunset and avoided the repercussions.
It's time. Sit down with Franklin and negotiate an exit strategy. Let Franklin go to a middling ACC or Big 12 squad to help rebuild their program. Get someone who understands how to build teams in the trenches. Someone willing to sit an ineffective player, regardless of whether it hurts his draft stock.
$72.50 per alumni…tack it into Alumni association bills! It’s too much money guys. Strictly from a dollars and cents viewpoint the media will have a field day. When you factor in the buyout, the cost of a new head coach, coordinators and assistants you will have stepped into a fiscal black hole. Maybe in two or three years, yes pull the plug, but right now it doesn’t make sense unless someone can guarantee a National Championship in two or three years. Just my two cents.
Is he? I thought so too at one point, but they seem to not be consistent also. Today’s game was a fine example. They dug themselves a four score hole they couldn’t dig themselves out of.Matt Campbell is an excellent choice.
Have u seen the coeds at Old Miss ?Easier to recruit Penn State than it is Ole Miss.
He’s been waiting for awhile. Nobody wants to wait too long. Fran Ganter did that and he never got his chance. If a quality program gives him a chance and a favorable contract, Hartline should do it.Love it, but he’s the Hair Apparent at his alma mater.
Is he really good at recruiting? Im not sold on it. Plenty of holes all around this team. But, is it recruiting or development once they get there???He is good at recruiting and he gets Success W/Honor. Where he fails is at everything else

Baloney. The schoool will hemmorage $ by leaving him in place. He should have been flown home separately from the team. All the rage and frustration aside, there’s virtually a 0% chance PSU moves on from Franklin after this season. Only Franklin leaving would trigger that outcome and that train left the station today.
But it sets up an interesting dynamic for 2026 when the team looks to be a lot worse on paper. How many rough seasons would Kraft and boosters have the patience for?
Do explain Sandy’s logic.Sandy did it for a reason. I could explain why, but it's best I don't. I'll stop now.
There's a photo out there of James hefting Sandy....this one will need to suffice in the interim.

I agree with using the backup now. This is Clifford and Drew all over again. Playoffs are done for this team. You need to find out what you have for next year and build towards that. Do something to salvage this recruiting class and keep the portal options plentiful by showcasing a promising up and coming QB (if we have one). Drew might actually thank you for pulling him.Baloney. I think Singleton is completely checked out - so move him down the depth chart.
And get Grunk ready. For IHC, Terry Smith.
Seems like there have been a run of “bad” OCs at psu but one constant. He Sucked as OC at PSU- hard pass.
Do that and watch your list of replacement candidates shrink significantly. There is no way to finesse this contract issue. You have to make him feel unwelcome. Take everything you can. Replace his laptop with an obsolete old desktop. No access to private travel. Cut his budgets. Close his restroom. Move his office. Have big donors hassle him. Anything and everything.
Doesn't work that way. Look at the Diaz contract. PSU took full advantage of the Diaz buyout to get him on the cheap. No school is offering 6 mil per year if Franklin has an 8 mill per year check in hand. One thing to keep in mind is that the buyout is offset by his next contract.

I like Urban but he comes with his own set of problems. Not sure if the Admin would be willing to gamble or if Urban would come. But he's a proven winner and recruiter so I think you'd see a positive impact quickly. Plus, I heard he's looking to get back into coaching so maybe?Urban.

The season is over, and we're staring directly down the barrel of 7-5, (8-4, if we're lucky, and 6-6 or even 5-7 is not out of the question). If we can lose to UCLA and have 42 points hung on us by an offense that was averaging 14 points/game, very few of the remaining games on the schedule can be taken for granted.I think Singleton is completely checked out - so move him down the depth chart.

as a Nebraska fan I'm a-ok with Rhule but he's not maybe the biggest name like urban or saben that always gets mentioned...or the new name like cignetti....
and I'm not saying you should fire your coach..he wins alot..
but who would be the top candidates if Penn State looked for another coach? I just ask cause Rhule seems to move alot and has past ties to Penn State
He’s Barry Switzer 2.0. If you can get him to not roster a serial killer, rub on 21 yr olds at The Lions Den, hire a wife beater on staff, or hire an open racist fired from Iowa, then the results would be good, but no guarantees. I’m not saying don’t go after him. He would be a big splash with instant results, but you’re playing with fire every day with him. What’s his problem? Winning?

Two more years!!? Very aware of buyout. But not paying it will cost PSU even more $. He should be waking up acrich man today that never needs to work again. Thanks Sandy! This point in Franklin's PSU career is starting to look a lot like early 2000's for JoePa. A whole lackadaisical approach to coaching and recruiting. He's got 6 years under contract to resurrect it but I don't know he's going to last that long under the mounting pressure. Two more years of this performance and I'd say he walks away.
Not wrong but I honestly think Hartline thinks of himself as a buckeye for life. I say that because he’s waited so long already. He’s been waiting for awhile. Nobody wants to wait too long. Fran Ganter did that and he never got his chance. If a quality program gives him a chance and a favorable contract, Hartline should do it.
Maybe, but after 8 million a year and what salaries have done in the interim (I don’t believe he’s a top 10 paid coach anymore), not sure he gets off the couch for less than 10 million total compensation by 2027. Could mean he just won’t work but I don’t know if he could do that psychologically after getting fired.Doesn't work that way. Look at the Diaz contract. PSU took full advantage of the Diaz buyout to get him on the cheap. No school is offering 6 mil per year if Franklin has an 8 mill per year check in hand.
Ganter had the same mindset. Not wrong but I honestly think Hartline thinks of himself as a buckeye for life. I say that because he’s waited so long already.
