Just saw on a Facebook post that Robbinsville has close to 70 kids on the practice field on the first day.(including jvs)..thats a good sign ..
May make the trek down to the field after work!

Worst JV turnout I've heard of at Murphy, even when factoring in basketball kids that weren't there.

I'd say there will be many teams that don't even field jv teams. Especially areas hit by eligibility standards going back into place.
I just hope there isn’t another shut down & these kids will miss the season!

At this point you aren't going to see another shut down. The only thing you will see is teams get shut down for a short period if there are cases amongst a team.
Varsity line looks like may be the biggest in years. I heard varsity had 36
What's your thoughts on JV this year in the SMC? No team really jumps out to me if Robbinsville moved both Williams and Adams to varsity.
Swain brings a bunch back on JV I think, will probably be between Robbinsville and Swain.
Murphy will be a non factor this season on JV, only 8 freshman I think and one of the 8 (who would have been starting QB) is out for the season after knee surgery. The 8th grade group only has about eight playing too I think. Hopefully the turnout is better this fall or Murphy could be looking at more than one lean year coming up.

I really dont see how Varsity line could be that big. Large part its the same varsity line as last year which was only 228lb average. I think Varsity will be bigger than last yr but not like 2014 or 15.
JV QB is 6ft plus. Running backs should be good. I dont see many teams having a better backfield, if so it will be barely.
We all know that a team must synchronize or talent dont matter as much. We do have good Coaches which is a plus.

The starters from last year have all gotten bigger..The avg size of our line last year was skewed low because we had a 165lb center..our starting center this year is probably 250lbs and with the addition of Key and Wachacha, which both are probably 6'2 and pushing 275 lbs,this line is much larger than last year
Just looking at the roster, there are between 28-30 returning players from the 2019 State Championship team..
Made it down to practice today..tried my best to count em all.there were 69 or 70 players...like trying to count a swarm of bees!
I wasn't very impressed...looked like a bunch of bear hunters and loggers.

Wood was there today, but abling still wasn’t, guess the basketball boys aren’t there yet. Looked really aggressive even for just helmets, Wood and rathburn are both not only running threats but receiving also.
Well Hayesville only has 14-16 players because they moved all 9th graders to varsity because so many left! So our JV is 7th and 8th graders

Been around the SMC for years. Never seen anything like it. Everyone i've talked to with the exception of Robbinsville is down numbers wise. With COVID, transfers, and overlapping schedules it makes it tough. Plus it doesn't help that these kids have had all this free time on their hands and just decide to not play for no reason. Seeing rosters of 20-25 in the SMC is really sad.
Actually he’s right I know schools that have lost 12-15 players easily on varsity and that will not have jv teams. That’s just reality
I'm sure there are many kids not playing out of safety concerns to, whether they live with a high risk adult or high risk themselves.
I'll be curious to see how wrestling numbers end up being.
I think you will see this across the state as far down numbers. There will always be the team that’s not affected, but it is the reality. It will be interesting to see how many teams don’t have JV.
Talking to a JV parent Murphy's had 14 and 15 kids out there the first two days and that's 7th, 8th and 9th! Granted they were missing a few basketball people each day I believe but quite frankly that's pathetic.
How many on varsity? Murphy has normally had 40 or 50 players until the last couple years
I'm sure your wrestling strongholds such as Robbinsville, Alleghany, Cherryville, Mitchell, etc. will be fine.
Varsity was 31 today from what I was told, I think they have 37 total.
Murphy JV had 20 practicing today and I think one was missing, so up to 21 on the team, not nearly enough but enough to field a team at least.
