The conference next year will be slightly tougher and with the lack of depth and losing some key players I feel the Bears are going to have some struggles. Going to take a lot of offseason work and discipline to get better
MA run is over. I thought it was over 3 games in this season. Lost too many leaders. This MA team didn't have a leader.
That goes a little bit deeper than the players, and it’s not to bash the coach, got to give props to the first year head coach and the challenges he faced. The issue was discipline, which will take time for a new head coach
Yes, he did great as a first-year head coach. We did not have the great offense that we had in previous years. With that said, the Bears had a great run, I am afraid these charter schools are starting to take over with Wilson Prep left in the East and Corvian only in its 3rd year having a football program in the West. Wilson Prep won the 1A basketball Championship last year and they are playing Tarboro next Friday for the East football championship. I saw this day coming but it took longer than I expected. Congrats to Corvian for only taking 3 years to reach this point.
Yes, the Mount Airy 1A run is over but Mount Airy was called a football school when I arrived there in the 1960s and has had some great coaches and players. There will always be a future chance of another run for those BEARS !
It also helps avoid having to hope you have a strong conference to have a good RPI
I have seen some 5 team conferences in the past. If there is not several other 5 team conferences in same or close classifications it makes scheduling non conference games difficult. Once schools start conference games most want no part of NC games.
My guess is a 1A/2A, 3A/4A, 5A/6A, and 7A/8A due to the only Mods, Deana & sportsnut to keep up with all those classifications. In the old preps forum, when ER was 2A and I just started looking, I noticed the 1A guys seemed like they were always sniping back and forth with each other…
Wow i didn’t know we lost so much. I guess people need to get out and watch a little Jv games to know what is coming up. We were one player from being back to our third straight state championship even after losing a tremendous senior class last year. We got defensive player of year, offensive player of year and coach of year back so the bears will be fine. Again wow
Hopefully, the new conferences will be released this week because I think I read somewhere that after the Championship games this coming weekend, the NCHSAA offices would be closed until either after Christmas or the first of the year, 2025.
Those group of schools have been linked together for years. That is a good geographical conference. They make for decent gates in all sports.
