My birthday is in November, and my parents asked me what I wanted for my 13th birthday. I told them I wanted to go to the Egg Bowl. They kept asking me, and they did the, "if you get that, you won't get anything else routine", but that was fine with me- I didn't want anything else. So, after a few weeks, they realized that I was serious, and my Dad got our family three tickets to go to the Egg Bowl.
That was actually the first college football game, and first MSU football game I had ever been to. I thought it was unbelievable- all of the energy and the atmosphere- and of course, it's even better now at MSU. But, I remember the pre-game show, I remember the band marching in, the Ole Miss cheerleaders running around with the Golden Egg like a bunch of douches- and the game hadn't even started!
I remember that Ole Miss had the ball, and Keo Coleman just absolutely blew up Tom Luke- it was one of the most vicious hits I have ever seen in my life to this day. I really wasn't sure if he was still alive for a minute there. I didn't see this- but I had heard about Luke puking on the sidelines after that play. Well, MSU blocks the punt, and then Sleepy threw to a wide open Willie Harris for a TD. Then our defense stops them, and then we get in the wishbone and just absolutely gashed them and we just dominated them 24-9. What was really cool was Sports Illustrated had a story about the game and football in Mississippi. A lot of Mississippians didn't like it because it talked about some of the not so positive aspects of the two schools and the state at the time, but it's one of my favorites because I was at that game.
I also got a MSU t-shirt that day from The Lodge, but other than that, I didn't get anything else for my birthday, and that was OK with me!
My first Egg Bowl in Oxford was in 1996. That was one of the most bizarre games I have ever seen. We won 17-0 without scoring an offensive TD.
My most momorable ones that I attended were 1998 and 1999.
