Those are still the weaknesses plus the OTs. Cox is a tremendous player don't get me wrong but I still don't trust Nicko the headhunter and the inexperience within the roster in the secondary.
I would call it the least experienced position group on the team. Would you disagree?
I would disagree. WR is the least experienced group. TE is not far behind.
There is hardly any difference in overall experience in our secondary vs our LB corps that everyone is so high on -- at least in terms of total snaps seen in game action... Not really that much experience difference with the DL either...
I think people get hung up on the terminology of starting experience instead of total snaps played, which I feel is probably more important(probably because it's so much more easily measured). We have done a good job of getting backups a bunch of meaningful snaps in games, especially on the defensive side...
We went 57 deep in the Gator Bowl and 56 deep in the Egg Bowl last year(Quay and James were suspended for the Egg -- Griffin was hurt for the Gator) -- which was 2 blowout defeats...
Can be looked at over the course of the entire season on pages 73 and 74 here: http://www.hailstate.com//ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=16800&ATCLID=926902
But isn't this your mentality on why OSU's offensive line is so inexperienced?
Thanks for the link to the media guide in the other post. I agree on all posts in this thread. We played a lot of players on defense last year, especially as compared to offense. Two points of note. I didn't realize that Hughes started after the LSU game. That's reassuring about his progression. Also, at times Love did not look good in coverage. But that could be said about the secondary in general in the same situations. There's no reason not to expect better this fall.Calhoun has 13 games of experience. Love has 25. They played 1/3 of the overall snaps last year at CB and no one noticed the dropoff(save one trip at UK for Love). Jay Hughes took Broomfield's starting spot prior to the final 4 games of his career. He's played in 26 games now. Whitley has played in something like 35 games -- and the simple fact that Cox is playing CB instead of FS says we've got confidence in him being the guy he was his first 2 years. Jiles and Redmond are uber talented
I've been preaching this for months now. The secondary isn't going to be nearly the problem that some have projected... Scheme could easily make it look better than how we wasted talent back there last year...
