Who on here is a flat earther?

Be Honest, I know some of you are.

I watched Behind the Curve last night and it's a fascinating look into conspiracy theories and the people that believe them.

There is a hell of a lot that we don't know, but it is amazing how much bonkers stuff people can believe in. Not a new phenomena, but social media has put it on steroids

Lol, sometimes I believe we have crossed the event horizon into a black hole

The doc I mentioned is on YouTube in full. What killed me was that the group was trying to do experiments to "prove" the earth was flat. It was wild to watch them literally prove the earth was round, and be dumbstruck, and then immediately make excuses on why they were still certain the Earth was Flat.

If you haven't seen it you should search it out. It's truly fascinating to see how these folks get a following on YouTube and use pseudo science to sound logical.

I guess you could always use some alternate reality version like that it is based on another dimension

Just for yoshi. Professor Yoshi, please watch this video and then scientifically dispell Eric Dubays arguments. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

As soon as I opened this thread I knew your stupid a** was going to be a flat earther. You and @fatpiggy are so f**king dumb it’s hilarious LOL. My god the amount of stupidity between the two of you is truly incomprehensible

LMFAO!!! I am not a flat earth guy. This is your thread so I wanted to give you the opportunity to beat the flat earth guy Eric Dubay down. Still waiting on your expert analysis of the video.

Honestly the entire idea of flat earth is so asinine it's not really worth the time. I watched a whole documentary that I linked earlier that shows very clearly its complete ********.

What is fascinating is watching people get sucked into it. It's a good insight into the conspiracy culture.

Easy to disprove. Lunar eclipse can't happen if the world in flat. Also been proven that there is a curve.
There we have it. Professor Yoshi shut it down in two short sentences. I am sure the news will spread across the globe like wildfire.

My 29 year-old twin sons use the term "it slaps" when they want to give high praise to something. How old are you, by chance?

I will confess that I still (at age 68) occasionally address male friends as "dude." Usually at the beginning of a sentence (i.e., "Dude, yada, yada, yada ..."). I stopped doing that decades ago, but then a guy who is now about 45 moved into the neighborhood ten years ago, and his continual use of the term somehow managed to get me using it again. Mea culpa, dude.

46 … I don’t verbally use modern/GenZ slang unless I’m embarrassing my pre-teen kids.
Only used it in my response because it just seemed appropriate.

I do use “dude” with regularity

Here are 3 pretty good ones.

  • Changing constellations: As you travel north or south, different stars become visible or disappear below the horizon. Polaris, for instance, is visible in the Northern Hemisphere but disappears once you move into the Southern Hemisphere.
  • Ships on the horizon: A ship sailing away will disappear from view starting with its hull, and then its mast, as it moves over the curve of the Earth.
  • Time zones: The existence of different times of day in different parts of the world can only be explained by a spherical Earth rotating on its axis, where one side faces the sun (day) while the other is in darkness (night).

My take on conspiracy theories is it's just as foolish to not believe in any of them as it is to believe all of them. Flat earth is definitely not one that anyone should believe, though.

@TigerGrowls you say here you aren't a flat earther, but the way you're posting clearly shows you aren't a "globe" earther either?

So where do you land?

I am not a flat earther but I have read some and they have a few interesting arguments. I am not convinced but open to more input.

@TigerGrowls or anyone else sympathetic to this whole thing:

I need some help understanding. I was driving by the lake the other day and saw something in the sky that I always enjoy:

It was after sunset (eg the sun was below the horizon) and you could still see sunlight reflecting off of the bottom of the clouds. That, combined with the fact that everyone experience that and that day length are the same at the same latitudes across the world (and that it's different parts of the day at different longitudes) seems to require that the Earth be a globe.

Do they think that the other planets, the sun, and the moon are flat too?

How do they propose that gravity is essentially the same everywhere on earth’s surface? The sphere is the only shape that will give you that assuming you believe in Newtonian gravity, which has been tested who knows how many times.

The freaking ancient Greeks knew the world was round. Why does the world seem flat locally? Because it’s really damn big, and the curvature of a sphere is inverse to its radius.

It's amazing to me that there are people stupid enough to believe the things they do. Flat earthers are obviously incredibly dumb. Then you have really, really stupid positions just in the top handful of threads on this board talking about gender neutral olympic sports and a certain race not paying taxes or receiving reparations. These are clearly batshit crazy, dumbfounding beliefs that make no sense whatsoever.
