sorry if germans, but this morning an air force jet was flying over the campus and looked like it was doing practice runs for a flyover of DWS. it was around for about an hour. at first, i thought it was practicing for paratroopers, but i think it was too low to drop anything.

That was interesting. They kept flying that **** right above the drill field. Not something you want to see when you are walking out there is those big *** planes right above. They fly any lower than they did today then come Saturday they could easily scare the **** out of everyone if they send one of those big boys over Davis Wade.

It was a C-17. The AFROTC guys were getting a ride. They're called "Incentive Flights".

It will fly over the stadium while the national anthem is being played, for maximum patriotic effect, and not as in the past few weeks, sometime after kickoff.

As a WTF instead.

These are military people, supposedly accustomed to split-second scheduling.
So maybe somebody atop the burial mound isn't properly cueing them?

I'm sure they (the AF) have been given a specific time to fly over and it is up to our band and pregame staff to make sure things are kept to schedule.

I would assume it is the C-17's out of Jackson AFR? And timing and AF pilots do not go together. Everytime we asked those bastards to do a supply drop, they missed by a mile, not to mention the jacknut A-10 pilot who thought we personally wanted to inspect his 500lb. bomb. If you want timing and precision, get USMC pilots. They are a little more knowledgeable when it comes to working with ground elements.

come live in my neighborhood. The damn IFR tower is about a mile away and I live on the northern approach. You can get an up-close and personal flyover most any day...and usually many times a day..any where from 6am til 10pm.

The Canadiens have a freighter down here "under repair" that they fly a lot. One of the very nice pilots informed me that they "fix" the plane down here, because "people at home complain too much."

I will add though, that I got to fly the simulator for the thing and was able to land in any airport in the world. Pretty damn cool.

that thing is definitely getting down low
Yeah it was and the video does not give justice to how low it actually was. I knew it was some air force drill but it was not the most comfortable I've ever been walking campus.

YOU = LIE!
So are you saying he didn't get the confirmation, or that the C-17 is not the plane that is going to be used in the flyover? And how does a person exactly "= LIE" anyway? Does that mean he doesn't exist at all?

without providing facilities to service them. The aircraft cost so damn much that they couldn't afford hangars and will have to acquire them in later years. Obviously, their government is more concerned about paying for things as they go than our government.

Actually, the best flyover I've ever witnessed was at Atlanta MotorSpeedway and I can't remember what type of plane it was. It was freaking HUGE, and it looked kind of like a Blackhawk but I'm sure it wasn't. It came in low as **** and then turn up very sharply. You got a great shot of the engines throwing fire out the back.
It makes you wonder how bad it sucks when the US military decides they're gonna 17 your country up. That's some intimidating ****.

If any of you guys have any pull get our pilots at NAS meridian to bring the T-45's for a fly over. They are fast and loud.

Long time reader. Not many posts, but I must comment. If you ever see a flyover that is late, it is because the band/national anthem singer/flag twirlers/baton throwers/majorettes/ are late! The athletic department gives a time that they want the plane to flyover and that is all the pilots care about. The technology in most airplanes (C-17, T-38) allows the pilot to manually input a time into the flight management system and once the autopilot is linked up, the airplane will adjust the throttles to be at that certain point at that certain time.

Having said that. I totally agree that flyovers need to be some type of fast, loud, aircraft that is fun to watch. Not a heavy aircraft.

new a guy that worked on C17s in jax. He said that they fly at 600mph, can carry a payload AND about a million gallons of fuel. He said they can leave edwards afb in the morning land at ramstien in germany and be back in ms that evening. Also can land on a very short runway. We watch them approach camp shelby all the time from purvis, they look like they are 100 ft. off the ground but are actually about 1000.
