Football Question for the Pack

We are seeing schools having to keep up the arms race (facility upgrades, coaches' salaries, equipment, travel, etc.) and also having to spend more on NIL to be competitive. When does the expenses not justify the reward, and we see smaller schools eliminate their football program and focus on smaller sports (basketball, baseball) with less overhead? Or will it happen? I can see schools say 17 this craziness, we're out.

Unless something drastically changes - there will be two different leagues at some point. Ones who can afford it and the ones who can't. I just hope we are in the former and not the latter.

Football will remain for all b/c it's still the primary money maker.

I think you'll see larger schools like Mississippi State, KState, Kansas, Iowa St, Indiana etc... cut out small sports in order to allocate more of the revenue share to football to offset being out spend in nil by the richer schools. However maybe we are already at the sec minimum for sports????

I see smaller schools, such as the sunbelt, op out of revenue share altogether and go to the FCS in the next 5-10 years.

I think we already have the minimum # of sports allowed to remain in the P4. Can't cut any more unless something changes.

Pretty much every school in the country shelved large-scale renovations/builds until the second half of 2024. But yes, Ole Miss tucked away that video rendering of an upgraded VHS quite nicely and did not go through with the planned Swayze enhancements

Yep and are going to charge admission to the grove. Schools are going to have to look for additional revenue streams besides shaking down donors and raising ticket prices

You can best beleive schools are going to try to pass the expense of rev share to fans.

But the levee is going to break at some point. Which OM after an uproar clarified they were not charging fans to enter or tailgate the grove. However they are charging commercial outfitters to set up.

Btw. ESPN and the acc just agreed to a tv deal through 2036. ESPN wants the acc to stay intact. However Clemson and fsu still have lawsuits pending.

So will Clemson and FSU reach a settlement where they get a bigger share of the pie than their acc rivals? I hope not because.... I can see the blue bloods of the B1G and the SEC raising hell to get more shares next tv deal.

Very few will do that, as they don’t have other sports that can make that revenue. A few Big East types like say Seton Hall may pull it off, or like a Gonzaga. I think many of them will just choose not to fund rev share.

There are still plenty of players out there willing to play sports for a scholarship only. All rev share and bigger rosters does is ensure the (alleged) best players are at the biggest schools. And that will obviously change yearly. The G5 will just be a minor league for P4.

I think the FBS stays intact, honestly. All a school like Kennesaw State or USM wants is a shot at the playoff……not to win it.
