Near one year ago to the day last Saturday, the #5 team in the nation (#14 at the time), Arkansas Razorbacks, beat Troy 38-28.

In Fayetteville. After 2 blowouts. Likely looking past them.

That 3-9 Troy team put up 457 yards to Arkansas' 454.

Corey Robinson (a year younger) was 36-63 with 3 TDs.

Arkansas, much like us, was up 24-7 at the half. It was 31-21 with 6 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. I'm betting there was some ULM type uneasiness in Reynolds Razorback Stadium that night, if only for a short while.

So, while it wasn't as close as our game, remember that we played them at their place (their Super Bowl).

And, Arkansas ended the season as a TOP FIVE TEAM. We're a good team, but I'll stop short of calling us a Top 5 Team, or even Top 15, but you get the point. Obviously they weren't invincible (see Vandy, Ole Miss). Also should show some of you that we could drop the Egg Bowl if we show up and knucklehead around like we did last Saturday.

I haven't noticed the Troy haters. I'm just glad to get a win from them. Do you remember their game a few years ago against LSU in Baton Rouge on a Saturday night??? They were skull dragging LSU at the half but they ran out of gas and LSU pulled it out in the 4th quarter. I hate playing Troy.

Interesting. My only concern would that ARkansas was #5 due to their offense so them giving up that many yards isn't as much of a concern where as our defense, more importantly, our pass defense, is supposed to be one of our key success factors. With that said, Im moving on from this game. Its a win and wont really affect anything else going forward.

With all of the spin that is coming out of Oxford

Let's not try to spin this close win to make ourselves feel good. We won the game lets review what happened on the field and move on. I don't see why you would go look up previous years on how Troy fared against their schedule. It doesn't relate to our product on the field this year.

This is the way I look at it............

Who remembers LA Tech last season? If it wasn't for a interception in the End Zone we lose. My point is come November who is going to remember how close the game was? A win is a win. Add in the fact that Troy could end up being the Sun Belt Champions. Do any of you think that Auburn fans remember how close Miss state was to beating thier asses during their NC run? Win is a Win in my book.

Yeah, anybody who follows college football closely (and doesn't have an agenda) knows Troy can be a capable opponent some years. Looking at their short history, they have played teams from all the Big$Conferences very close on occassion.

To say we are bad (and haven't played anyone) because of our game at Troy is short sighted.

I was pissed at the performance, but it's history now. We won and that's all that matters. And it's true, most teams struggle against an opponent like Troy at some point along the way. Let's just hope it was not a sign of future problems.

When we play our regular defense. It's only a concern to me when we play that God awful ****** zone like we played against Troy. It was almost a completely different look that the previous game against Auburn. I still don't understand other than letting some young guys in the game for experience and zone eases them into action more fluently.

When we have our starting 11 plus the rotational linemen, pressure man coverage defense is our best bet to win ball games. Pressure the QB into throws before he wants to and rely on our NFL caliber DB's to make the plays they have shown they can make.

Expect to see the same defense this weekend, but South isn't close to the talent level of Troy. Troy has some realt good players that couldnt get into top programs for one reason or another, and they acquire a lot of transfers for various reasons.

Defensive scheme and gameplan will be completely different in Lexington and when UTenn rolls into town.

Perhaps it's time to let Troy go...

..since the Troy game, there has been enough in-depth analysis to fill a small library. Let me sum it up in 8 words: It was a trap game, & MSU survived. Let it go & move on.

More fun with deductive logic

Premise 1: Troy is 2 spots behind UTEP in the latest Sagarin ratings.

Premise 2: Ole Miss beat UTEP by 18 and outgained them 538 to 311.

Premise 3: MSU beat Troy by 6 {on a TD that easily could have been a turnover on downs} and was outgained 572 to 457.

Therefore: Ole Miss is clearly better than MSU.

Better deductive logic:

MSU has not lost a game this year. Ole Miss has. Ole Miss is more likely to lose than MSU.

When trying to propose that in the future no one will remember a past event, you probably shouldn't use as an example two past events of which you remember some details.

Your point however, is valid. A win is a win.

This would be a good retort if he was using his post to argue that we are as good as last year's Arkansas team. He clearly isn't, so your point is moot.

His point is that good teams sometimes struggle with lesser teams. He chose the example he chose because the lesser team happened to be the same lesser team we just struggled with.
