Cochise, I was writing this when the other one got locked in response to your post that folks treat each other nice in person and it's only online where it's bad-
Not to nitpick with you, but unfortunately, social media is where most of day-to-day life occurs in our culture. And it's just plain terrible.
We've done extensive work with both our kids to make sure they don't get influenced by social media, don't accidentally (or intentionally) take part in online bullsh*t, and spend real time away from phones, screens and in community with other kids. Their real experience in the world includes instant access to a device that drives everyone insane. Those devices have already driven older people insane.
The fact is that everyone has the ability to go online and be hateful in ways that I would never have imagined as a high schooler in the '90s, and that is magnified with every new iteration of technology. It's worse today with TikTok and Sora than it was 5 years ago with FB and Instagram. It's very grim.
This board (and I'm sure all boards, this is the only one I read) can go from mundane to absolutely psychotic from one subject to another. There are grown men on here saying things that they'd never say in person because they wouldn't have the guts or social pressure would keep them from acting. I don't know how someone can type out such sh*tty things about people and then get up and be polite to a coworker you disagree with. In fact, I'd posit that that is an example of psychosis.
I'm just very weary of everyone allowing a handful of billionaire sh*theels to socially engineer everyone into mental illness for profit, while we pull each other down into the mud for literally no reason.
Also, sports related- GTHOM.
