Spent too many nights there. Became friends with him to the degree that you could. At least he knew me by name.
His older brother would serve the bar in the afternoon. The stories he told me about how they grew up were, well sick and despairing.
Always had a good time there and only got almost thrown out once. Me and some buddies were drunk and wouldn't stop throwing beer bottles at the chicken wire when he was singing. he finally called us by name, so to speak. We stopped.

I think that I understand that he gave himself to Christ later in life. Amen if he did.

Non boomer here as well, but us GenX-ers were there too.

Mack's Supper Club, Crawford, MS. I never went there before The Landing and Doug's closed, so roughly 2:00 am at the earliest.

Think of the Double Deuce in Roadhouse, except the band was not the blind slide-guitar player, but the owner himself - and he cussed like a sailor and every song sounded like Andrew Dice Clay wrote the lyrics.
accurate post is accurate

Did any of y'all go to the oak ridge grocery? It was a daytime joint out that way. Tallboys were 35 cents and play the jukebox for a nickel.
