The MS Coliseum will be selling beer at the Hank Jr concert according to Marshall Ramsey's twitter.

if Lester would have let them sell beer in the coliseum. That law, rule, whatever it was prohibiting the sale inside the coliseum was the biggest bunch of hypocrisy every. There were Bud Light signs on every scoreboard, 8 of them under the ice, several on the boards surrounding the ice, in the concourse, etc. but you couldn't buy it! You could walk outside and buy it in one of the beer gardens on the midway at the fair, but nooooooooo, not inside the coliseum. Yes Mr. Beer vendor, we'll gladly take you sponsorship money from you BUT we won't sell your product in here.

and I'm sure that no one cares for my musical opinion (weblow), Hank Jr. is an insult to his father. I would never be caught dead at one of his shows. I know that wasn't the point of your post, but I felt I needed to vent that just a little.

The Bandits died because of the Dixie National Rodeo. That damn thing compressed the home schedule. Season ticket holders don't want to attend hockey 3-4 nights/week when the Bandits are playing at home.

Beer would have helped. But beer didn't kill the Bandits.

There was a longer range plan to get a new arena. But Bernie had a few troubles that got in the way of that.

Alas, who needs progress? We've got the 17ing Dixie National Rodeo!

even bigger issues were the month long road trip for the Dixie Rodeo and the high school basketball tournament. As FlabLoser correctly points out, not only did that keep them on the road for a month during the heart of the season, it also forced them into having 2-3 home games per week when they could play at home, which hurt attendance. But even if they could have solved that problem (they did have plans to build a new arena either in Pearl or next to the MS Memorial Stadium), the WorldCom failure and subsequent criminal scandal and the Friede-Goldman bankrupty would have killed them anyway. Few people realise it, but even without Bernie Ebbers, if Friede-Goldman had survived, the Bandits could have survived, if they'd been able to get the new arena deal done. And it got close to getting done. Bernie was by far the most well-known owner, but he was never the key owner.

I would think people coming to stay in Jackson awhile for the DN would be a good thing for the city don't you think?

sober long enough to put on a good show. I have some friends that know Hank and invited himon a hunting trip over at Eagle Lake several years ago when he was still in major party mode. They had one hell of a time but they said they have never been happier to see a set of bus tail lights leaving in their life. He sort of overstayed his welcome! First thing he did when he got there was run his bus off in a wet bean field and sunk it up to the axles which is one of the reasons he was there so long. I love the guys music, best sing along drinking music around.

DNR is great when it is here. But it is not great enough to justify prevent an ice hockey team from permanently locating here and building enough of a following to get a modern arena. The DNR is a roadblock to many things. Yeah, its great. But I would trade it for all the other stuff that could come here more than once/year in its place.

Thats horse ****, he can do whatever the hell he wants. If people like it, then obviously its not bad. Both he and his father were outlaws and sketchy figures for their time.
