I don't understand how the school playing by the rules, and doing the right thing is being smeared. This is not sour grapes, it's justice. Cam wanted to play here and if his piece of **** father didn't pimp his own child out to the highest bidder, Cam would be at State, where he wanted to be. In this situation, MSU lost b/c we played by the rules, yet somehow we're the bad guys.

Also, do you think if the roles were reversed, would the other schools just look the other way? 17 no they wouldn't, and we couldn't get pissed at them if they did.

We are already fighting an uphill battle recruiting against the Bama, Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, Georgia, and Floridas of the world based on reputation and program prestige. I guess these people think we should just be okay with it if big brother can pay for another advantage. If we let this happen we might as well join the sun-belt and try the Boise/TCU route to get to a BCS game. If you have a competitive bone in your body you don't just take crap and keep your mouth shut. Apparently these people work at Wal-Mart.

for us doing the right thing. Neither Auburn fans nor the media can sanction our football program. So bring it on. Spend the pre-season bitching about agents, then crucify the school that actually did something about it for all I care. We'll just take our 7-2 record and a roster full of fully eligible players to Tuscaloosa and play our next game.

Of course, it is not justified, but Stricklin needs to get on top of this and issue a strong statement that we were not behind the story breaking when it did. I think this is the biggest issue, the timing of the whole ordeal. From all accounts, this is something we handled a LONG time ago and the investigation or media or whatever finally hit its boiling point and the story broke. Whether that is because some media members got a whiff of the investigation and really started digging, or some other reason, I don't know. I am sure there is a reason that the AD is holding its cards close right now, but I definitely hope at some point an official from our school will stand up and clarify our role in this. It should be obvious that there is no way we wanted to break this now while we are 7-2 and dealing with Nick's passing - but clearly some people aren't picking up on that. We need to spell it out for them. <div>
</div><div>I agree with your sentiment that it is absolute horseshit for certain media personalities to come down on State right now.
<div>
The other/secondary issue as far as we are concerned is: what is the real reason we reported this to the SEC? Sure, it was the right thing to do, but have we reported other "lesser" players? You know the Newtons aren't the first to come with their hand out. Was it something we couldn't avoid because there was some secondary violation on our part involved? That would make sense and would justify it. </div></div>

Well, if we can't get a few morons who don't think MSU is right for them because we protected the University in what is looking like a huge recruiting scandal, then who really cares? I won't miss them. I don't exactly miss Cam Newton right now do you? It would have been a heck of a price for one more win, because we had played the game, you can pretty much just reverse the situation that Auburn and MSU are in right now.

All we did here was protect ourself. If we had kept our heads in the sand, like apparently some people would have preferred -- and which was our approach in the past -- we would have gotten slaughtered by the media, by the NCAA, and by the SEC. We can take getting slaughtered by some of the media for now, but not by the NCAA or the SEC. Also, it is notable that the news sources that have their facts straight are not slaughtering us.

Any negative PR I've heard has been a definite minority. If I'm Joe Fan, the biggest thing I got out of this is that the best QB in the country WANTED to go to MSU, and it took $200,000.00 to sway him away.

Bowl Game > A few weeks worth of hypocrite talking heads

We can only 17 this up by starting to give official public statements right now. All they'll do is start turning that around on us. We did what we did, protected the University, and that's that.

We've been bent over and violated by the SEC so many times in so many sports, I am absolutely thrilled that we've spilled the beans on Auburn and, as the rumors go, other schools as well.

17 you, SEC. 17 you Auburn. 17 you Alabama. 17 you Kentucky. 17 you usual suspects. 17 Shug Jordan. 17 you 11 SEC ADs that voted against cowbells in spite of objective proof that they are harmless. 17 you Mike Slive.

I keep remembering Rick Stansbury's words from last season - "I've learned that at Mississippi State, you're supposed to sit back and take it". So again, and on behalf of Rick Stansbury, 17 you SEC!!

All these years of being screwed from every conceivable angle has come back to bit you. Not out of spite, but more karma than everything else. The harmless step child that you put on probation through the Croom years has done just what you've asked. We followed the rules and BOOM went the dynamite. Sorry, them's the rules.

Here's to hoping some top SEC brass also go down with this thing.

and i guess it could positively affect our recruiting with some players just as much as it could negatively affect it with others. hopefully after all the cards are on the table, some of these "journalists" will right some of their wrongs. im just glad that auburn is going to get 17'd and hopefully the ncaa will save some of the hammer for ole miss and masoli as well.

They are still suffering from LT syndrome.

It's an insidious disease form which the sufferer curls up in the fetal position, and repeats over and over again, "Yes sir, Mr. Slive, we will do exactly as you ask".

I don't mind that we told, but for us to be the ONLY sources to go PUBLIC to the media is getting us a lot of negative publicity. It would be one thing if we had others backing up this story, but that hasn't happened and might not.

One thing is for sure, we better not have any skeletons in our closet and we better be squeaky clean... And is anyone really clean?

I am just saying, none of us really know how this went down back in December/January. We don't know the impetus for turning this in. I, like most everyone else on here, would like to think that this is our routine - that we do this for every recruit that comes to us and overtly asks for money - but I don't know that to be true. Alternatively, if we committed some secondary violation (i.e., some contact by an ineligible "recruiter") and were therefore obligated to report it, that also makes sense. The root could be the Bond story - that their contact constituted a secondary violation, compelling us to report. That is also fine. We could have assumed that the Newton's were so blatant in their private lottery that we knew this would blow up at some point and approached it that way. Finally, we could have just done it because Cecil is a punk, Auburn is dirty and we wanted to put them in their place - that is fine too, there is nothing wrong with it, but I really have no interest in seeing AU go on probation for 10 years. <div>
</div><div>All I am saying is that I just want to know the answer to those questions. I guess you are right that we could royally screw up a public statement. All I am saying is that I want some more answers relative to our involvement, namely:</div><div>
</div><div>The circumstances surrounding the report to the SEC, what all was provided.</div><div>The circumstances surrounding the breaking of the story last Thursday, the day of Nick's memorial. </div><div>
</div><div>I don't necessarily want to know these things for national vindication, but out of simple curiosity as to how our administration handled this and how we operate. </div>

Polk and Sherill both said 17 to the ncaa and sec. Sherill has the proof and so does Polk. Someone made and offer to Bond. I'll give credit, he did the right thing by reporting it. Would not have thought that he would considering the tons that he smoked during his playing years. AD reported it to SEC , we are out of the picture now. If anybody does not like it 17 them to.

...we absolutely did the right thing in initially reporting this. I think Bond had to cover himself and he went public. My problem is that our coaches are apparently talking to Joe Schad. I think for the first time in this case, it looks like we are trying to bust Auburn and in the process we are making the league office look bad.

At the end of this, Auburn will turn us in over any little minor recruiting issue and the league office, who holds the key to the cowbells by the way, will be pissed and will 17 us any way they can.

At least that's my feeling.

I say we go full bore both barrels. We're never going to move up in the SEC until we knock someone out from above us. If that means we have to make it know that we're being scooped for players by other schools with cash then so be it. I'd love to just beat everyone on the field but I've got 200K reasons to think that is easier said than done.

If Cam would have been recruited by the rules we'd be in the hunt for the<span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0); font-weight: bold;"> <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">BCS National 17'ing Championship</span></span> and have a <span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Heisman Front-runner</span><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">?</span>

Wringing sh@t has got to stop. I'm proud people like John Bond are associated with MSU. We should sue the mule renters for recruitment expenses, alumni pain and suffering and slander. 17 them to probation hell. I've lived MSU being the stepchild of this cheating conference for a half century. Tyler probation for buying a kid a few clothes so he would not be ashamed to go to class, the crucifixion of JWS, tire deposit money, $200 dollars for car detailing, $10 buffet, private investigator, +%@% alumni sex scandal with NCAA investigator not to mention the dozens of MSU student's murdered on a two lane hwy 25 because a +%@% dominated state legilative body would not appropriate the funds to four lane a hwy from Jackson to starkvagas. I say 17 them all ! Let's go Georgia tech on their a$$. Slive is a ho. You mealy mouthed girly men shut the 17 up we - the entire MSU family are the victims. The AD, coaches, players, ticket buyers, and students. the 17ers committed grand theft of our heismam winner and national championship team. Mullen would not sell his soul even for a national championship shot. Nobel, sheer Nobility ! "what do you covet Clareese ?"

Miss. State had a heisman-caliber player dying to come to Miss. State, one that could have put us in the hunt for a national title, and at the last minute Auburn threw 200K to his daddy to get him to sign with them. <17> Auburn. Let's bust their sorry hypocrite asses, now and then some.
