For those with Comcast, how long are you waiting to change for SEC network?...

Any word on directv?

Stricklin spoke at our county alumni meeting a while back. He said the Disney (who owns ESPN) contract is up for renewal in September. He said he is pretty sure it will be included in the renewal

I'm planning on dropping Comcast soon with or without the SEC network. Doesn't really have anything to do with football as I won't be staying much in central MS during the fall so don't need cable. I will be on the AL coast and my condo has Mediacom. They are in the same boat as everyone else, no sec network as of the moment. If they don't get it, so be it. I'll either watch another game or just walk the beach.

Or you could just go to whatever your local watering hole is and buy a couple beers or whatever floats your boat. Or call up a friend with DirecTV. Games aren't fun to watch alone anyway.

I'm giving them until Aug 10. I figure 18 days is enough time to make the switch to UVerse before the games start.

For the record, I'm not expecting Comcast or Directv to pick up the SEC Network by kickoff. And if they don't have it by kickoff, I think it'll be a year or two before they negotiate the price down enough to pick it up. If they're willing to lose the group of hardcore SEC fans who are going to switch in July or August for not having the Network, then they might as well wait it out until ESPN agrees to drop the price by 20-30%.

I just switched to Uverse for TV, it's pretty good so far

Decent price, installation was smooth and he even gave me my third box wireless without charging me. The picture is fantastic, the box reacts in readily fast. Pretty happy so far, only drawbacks is I can't sort the guide by HD only and you can't seem to change a channel while paused and some back to it still paused, I like that. And I finally get WatchESPN back plus secnetwork. I filled out the form requesting service a few times recently (from different addresses on my block) and it got to my street like two weeks later...

I would get Uverse, but it's not available in my neighborhood, which I really don't understand. It's not like I am in the middle of nowhere, I'm in a suburb of Houston.

Saw an interview with the Comcast CEO . The sec wants Comcast to pay for every subscriber and for Comcast to give the sec network to every subscriber. The CEO argument is they only want to give the sec network to the subscribers who wish to purchase the sec network.
It's not all on Comcast.

If you remember the same thing basically happened a few years ago with ESPNU. The SEC started broadcasting games on ESPNU and it took up until one week before the season started before everyone got it. The big power people will start really bitching two weeks before the season starts and everyone will get the Network right before kickoff starts. I bet it goes down just like it did with ESPNU.

I wish Comcast CEO would take the same approach to Lifetime channel, MSNBC, CNBC, etc. that I don't want. If they would take the same approach on all cable channels, I could get by on about 10 channels.

So Comcast wants us to pay extra for the network. Like they do for ESPNU through their sports package. Not surprising, but somebody tell me again why the sec network is a good thing? Going to cost the consumer more money, right?

That's exactly what he would do if those networks charged anything close to what sports networks ask.

Of course. MSU wasn't about to get all this money out of nowhere. It has to come from somewhere. Think of it as a donation.
