For you smart guys that say Mullen has no need for Russell in his scheme...

Chris Leak is no more athletic than Russell. They are vey much alike. Russell will be the "base" offense and relf will be the "change up"

that with just Leak at QB- Fla's offense was 54th in the nation...when they added Tebow- it movedup to 10th...Tebow played at least 20% of the time at QB when they won the NC

Russell may very well fit in just fine- but history shows us that Mullen prefers a runner and wants to run the football. We will just have to see how it plays out.

Many of you this time last year were so sure Russell was going to be the starting QB in 2009 too, yet that never materialized.

I think without a doubt, no matter who starts, both are going to play alot next year

was because they simply knew the offense better. I know that it's common for a lot of spread teams to struggle in their first year.

I'm not saying that was the only factor because having Tebow- and some other new players- to use as weapons no doubt helped, but I don't think it was just Leak. No doubt Leak improved as a QB after one year in the system as well.

they were being stubborn their first year and tweaked the offense midway through.

maybe Meyer wanted that type of QB coming in to at least give them another facet to the offense. I sure havent read any stories about how close Mullen was to Brantley like I have Tebow and Newton

Adding a one of the best college athletes of all time as your team's QB improves the offense?
Oh, it's because he's a runner.

Are you telling us that Meyer has been running an offense he doesn't want to run his whole career and is only now changing to a less option based offense?

but I am saying his OC at Fla may be more committed to the run than he is. Whats the first thing you heard out of Fla after we hired Mullen? That Fla was going to change the offense some to show off Tebow's passing talents.

I'm saying that Mullen has shown his committment to the running game, and I dont see it changing a whole lot

The fact that Brantley was also a Florida legacy, highly rated qb who wanted to go to UF more than anywhere else. Meyer and Mullen would have had to explain why they kept the kid away. They didn't really have to work hard to get him. That being said, I agree that Brantley's success would be an encouraging sign forRussell.</p>

You are saying that Mullen was forced into recruiting a player thatdid notfit his system. His hand was forced by the HC who, according to you,has an apparent difference in offensive philosophy. The same coach he has been with and worked under forever? The same coach that developed this system with him?

The talk about throwing the ball was more becasue Tebow had developed and had NFL quality. Nothing but a hype job for number 15 to be pushed to NFL scouts. Not because Mullen left.

Really it seems like every QB discussion on this board starts with someone saying Russell will hardly see the field because he cant run the ball. I like Relf but he cant hit an open receiver half the time but he will start cause he can run better, Im just not seeing it. I watched most of Russells high school games and while he is no speed deamon, he can run pretty well. All this clubbed foot crap "sources" have let yall in on is junk. I would rather have a QB who is great at throwing the ball than being great at running/ok at throwing.
