I like Jeff Shepard, but that type of interview will not move you up the ladder. He really could have asked some good questions there and let Croom off the hook. Neither one of them seemed like they wanted to do that interview.

I agree that's ****** as hell. The guy (Croom) could have done some good things if it wasn't for his pride. It's hard for me, after watching that, to even give the goofball credit for the good things he did for the program.

Listening to him say (repetitively) how much better he left the program than it was when he arrived, you get the feeling the idiot almost believes himself. Very telling that the two he mentioned, "Dr. Lee and Larry," were the only two from the administration that he credited. That pretty much said it all. Maybe when he finishes networking, he'll go clean up his yard. His house looks abandoned.

maybe Croom will end up with the Bungles. he can help them "do it the right way".
lord knows they need help in that category.
...be a positive influence on cedric benson...
"Ced, stay away from suv's and boats...."
....and Chris Henry...
"Chris, let parking attendants do their jobs. Just leave them alone..."

because of disciplinary reasons but the talent level is still not better than when he took it over.

And the talent level of the top dozen or so players is almost definitely down.

Croom would have offers thrown at him like panties at Elvis. Maybe his coaching ability IS in question after all.

Gotta give Croom some credit on this class about to sign. He laid the groundwork for the success we are having. Mullen is reeling them in but Croom set the hook.

glad these guys are on the way in & i agree croom & his staff laid the groundwork. great job on their part, here. (wow, that felt odd)
doubly glad we dont have to watch them be forced to run the class 4 atrocity that was the offense last year.

where are all the coaching offers from everyone since he is such a great coach? Anyone seen a column explaining that? All the sportswriters went straight from kissing his *** and scolding MSU for firing such a great man and an excellent coach to complete silence on Croom. Some of those idiots wont even admit that MSU made an upgrade. It's all "well wait and see". Well it wasn't wait and see with Croom... it was everyone elses fault that he didn't succeed and it was taboo in the media to ever question his abilities. When is someone else going to promise his 20 years to right the ship and listen to what pitiful shape they are in?

but if you can stomach it, watch a video from us in 2003. Yes, we were poorly coached, but the physical difference between the players we had then and now is astonishing. We look so much bigger and faster then. We sucked, but at least we LOOKED like an SEC team.

but I don't remember any articles scolding MSU about firing Croom. I think us being on ESPN during the La Tech and Auburn debacles, among others took care of that.

the talent is definitely better. There were some studs here and there when Croom came in, but the overall depth of the team was horrendous. Not to mention a poor recruiting reputation. I'm glad Croom is gone, but saying the talent is the same as it was when he got here is a little ridiculous. Think about some of the starters from Croom's first year. We had guys out of position and guys who belonged on a D2 squad. Our two-deep now is much more well-rounded than it was years ago.

Better shape than when he found it?

WTF Croom?

Were our players shooting the Budweiser car or jumping off-duty cops in 2004?

Can the black bear ever quit running his mouth?

as far as this fan is concerned,, I'll never give Crxxm any credit for anything. Ellis Johnson was the reason we went to the Liberty bowl in 2007.

Here is one example, among dozens I could go find you, where Croom's future coaching success was virtually guaranteed.

From Ray Glier of the New York Times:

Anyone who has followed this journey should realize that despite his record, Croom has restored decency and credibility to Mississippi State's football program. His successor will find the going much easier in recruiting and in attracting assistant coaches. Furthermore, a number of the Bulldogs' losses were close and quite competitive. Croom accepted the job under what many describe as "... a worst-case scenario" resulting from the questionable actions of the previous coaching staff. Croom was forced to operate with limited scholarships and almost no television exposure during the first two years of his tenure. More telling, Croom's alma mater, Alabama, had the option to hire him and passed. I applaud Mississippi State for its historical decision. But I fault Mississippi State for pulling the trigger too soon. Croom's teams had begun to turn the corner. There were stellar victories notched during the lean years - Florida and Alabama, for instance - and some of Croom's more talented players are playing on Sunday. Croom's entire career has been linked to greatness, as a college player and as a professional coach. No one will doubt that Sylvester Croom will be back coaching football immediately, either as a head coach at the collegiate level, or as an assistant at the professional level. ...

I'd guess we could say slightly better. I don't think we were close to 6 wins in 2003 and we could have easily had 6 wins in 2008.

the predictions of Croom's immediate hiring as a college head coach or pro assistant and how that has failed to materialize. Maybe I missed what we were discussing?
