My 9 year old wants to go to Pinehurst for his 10th birthday, so we luckily got a 12:30 tee time at the Cradle tomorrow for him, his brother, a friend, my wife and I. Will try to play it a couple times, some Thistle Dhu, and probably let them each customize a box of balls in the new Titleist shop.

Awesome birthday gift, and the weather looks perfect! Maybe you can watch the first half of the Heels game on-site, too.

It wasn’t too obvious from the picture or post, but that was after a hole in one. Hit a nice little 56 above the hole. Pin was near the front and I couldn’t see the hole but there were a dozen folks watching from up top and they went wild. Was a great day with the boys. The outer two are mine and the middle is a friend there for the birthday celebration.

Everybody’s favorite player, Patrick Reed with the top three at the BMW today. What should concern Keegan is almost all of Europe’s captain’s picks played well, including Viktor Fitzpatrick and Rahm

Is Jackson Koivun playing well or a star in the making?
I like his odds as the world’s number one ranked Am
Edit: I just looked it up. He’s made six of eight cuts with two top tens and likely to add another top 10 today. Compare that to David Ford’s start as a professional

Definitely felt the pressure there but some quality shots down the stretch after falling behind by two. Must be tough trying to chase down this generation’s Tiger.

I can’t really think of another generational superstar that is otherwise so unassuming as Scheffler. Guys like that, Tiger, MJ etc were out to dominate and they let you know it. Tim Duncan if you put him in that category would be one.

Mike Trout and Ohtani probably qualify, too, but I agree with your assessment. I don't ever remember an athlete so dominant having such a perfect balance of professional and personal contentment. Those two traits are usually at odds with each other.

I don't know if they mentioned it on the broadcast yesterday, but it was kind of cool to have an all Chapel Hill native* final pairing.

*I get that Koivun wasn't there very long, but that's still where he's billed from.

Buddy in my group yesterday at 7 Lakes aced I think it was the 5th hole yesterday , His 3rd one he said , first one Ive seen live . I probably have averaged 25 rounds a year over the last 34 years . So 25x4=1000 , x 34= 34000. Lets call it 30,000

So I am 0 for 30,000 on not getting a Hole-in-one .

No Tournament of Champions at Kapalua this coming season, due to ongoing drought conditions and water conservation restrictions.

I had to do a quick google search to see what tournament was this past weekend. The ProCore or something like that? What season/year do the winning points go towards.. next year?

Yes, FedEx Cup points earned in the fall events (of which there are 7), count toward next season, with the caveat being that only players who finished this past season outside of the top 50 in the FedEx cup standings can earn points in any of the fall events. It's really just a way for those players outside of the top 50 to improve their position in terms of which events they can get into next season.

All I took from that was players outside the top 50 are pissed because the top 10 Americans joined the field this year when they likely wouldn't have otherwise. :)

Some take-aways from the captains’ media time today…

US Ryder Cup players are getting paid this year. Keegan is donating his to charity. Paul McGinley is Paul McGiddy about how Europe players are “playing for more than just money”.

Brandel thinks this is an early psych win for Europe. I don’t know if I’d go that far but I wish our team would’ve continued being unpaid if for nothing else than to annoy Patrick Cantlay.

So what's everyone's prediction for the weekend?
Early returns indicate there will be entirely too much fuss made about the fact that the US players are getting paid but the Euro players are not. You’d think the Euro players are taking time away from their homelessness to play in this event.

There will also be a huge overemphasis on the partisanship of the gallery.

Oh, you meant predictions about the golf? :) I’m looking forward to the attention going to that. The course set up, the pairings etc. It’s sounding like Scottie will be going out with Henley on foursomes at least. I’m interested in seeing who else we send out on Friday morning. It’s crucial that we don’t get way behind early. Xander and Cantlay? I can’t see BdC playing foursomes (alternate shot).

Re potential pairings…maybe some hand tipping going on with the practice round pairings… https://www.rydercup.com/news-media/ryder-cup-2025-tuesday-practice-round-pairings

There is some international incident potential in any pairing involving Rahmbo. Especially if he is with Tyrrell Hatton. That might be good entertainment actually. I also put Shane Lowry on whiner watch…I know some people on this board like him—and he might be a good guy otherwise—but he seems to usually be in the middle of the Ryder Cup euro whining chorus.

From Sports Illustrated - SCHEDULE CHANGE:
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — With rocky weather in the forecast for Thursday, the 2025 Ryder Cup announced a big change to this week's schedule.

The opening ceremony has been moved to Wednesday, Sept. 24. The pre-show will begin at 3 p.m. with the opening ceremony set for 4 p.m.
Fans holding Ryder Cup+ tickets for Thursday will now be admitted both Wednesday and Thursday.

Traditionally, the Ryder Cup captains announce their pairings for the first session at the opening ceremony. But with this change to the schedule, the captains will not announce pairings at an event that will now be staged a full day-and-a-half before the matches kick off. U.S. captain Keegan Bradley and European captain Luke Donald will announce Friday morning's pairings 4 p.m. Thursday at a location to be determined.

The schedule for the rest of the week remains unchanged. The opening foursomes session will begin Friday morning at 7:10 a.m. ET, with the afternoon four-ball session to follow. It's the same schedule on Saturday. On Sunday the opening singles match will tee off at 12:02 p.m. with the rest following in turn.

So what's everyone's prediction for the weekend?
My prediction is the US cannot depend on Scottie to roll thru his opponent, any of them whether it be foursomes, four ball or singles. Therefore, we're gonna need significant points from Spaun and DeChambeau.

I have been familiar with Spaun since he was on the Korn Ferry Tour. If I had told you a year ago he would be a Ryder Cupper, much less one I thought we would depend on heavily, you would've probably called be crazy. And, deservedly so but that's where I think we are.

That’s certainly worrisome. Can’t believe the cliff Morikawa has fallen off and Cantlay to some extent as well

Pairing by golf ball means the US would only have 3 pairings where the players are using the ball they normally use. The 4th pairing would have one of the players using a ball they don’t normally use.

This would suggest:
BDC/Young
Sxheffler/Harris
2 of JT, Henley, Canrlay

X & Burns use different models from Calloway
Griffin, Spaun, Colin use balls from unique manufacturers.

The Euros have 5 potential pairings based on ball choice.

Who knows if that will be a factor or not, these days I’m inclined to think it will at least be a consideration. The Tuesday pairings had 2 of the 3 pairings together.

Major hat tip to Justin Rose, Keegan Bradley, Scotty and whoever else has been asked about the planned Trump visit and how much of a distraction it is going to be. They’ve all handled that question deftly and with a lot of class imho and did not take the obvious baited hook.

These guys are obviously all great golfers but, having watched several of the press conferences this week, I’m continually amazed by how smart a lot of these guys are. Very funny too.

FWIW Todd Lewis just said that he expects Bryson to play foursomes on Friday and maybe paired up with JT.

That would certainly be a rev-up for the crowd but I’m not sure how that pair would do on the scorecard. Assuming Todd had inside info, I guess we’ll see…
