I think the new CEO is going to shake things up, which is probably needed.

It is very interesting how they made sure to emphasize that Koepka is being "punished." Equally interesting is how they are clearly opening the door for Rahm and BDC to come back (I guess Cam Smith too).

BDC isn't coming back unless LIV completely folds. Rahm? Maybe?

Funny that Phil is the only LIV golfer who won a major in 2021 that’s left out of the current deal, which is only for 2022-2025.

He didn’t burn that bridge, he blew it up with a thermonuclear bomb. It’s too bad, he would have been great for the senior tour. Hes a dck, but he’s also hilarious and a real entertainer.
Overall I’m happy with this. It was managed quietly and it opened the door to the few players that will make the tour a better product.

I’d like BDC to jump back, but reports are he’s eyeing a 500mil payday. I’m not sure how he can pass on that if it’s true.

So Rahm, BDC, and Cam Smith are staying with LIV.

They got more money? Or Rahm is staying because of his contract?

I do think Rahm is staying because of his contract having so many years left on it.

Which brings to mind .... why did LIV let Brooks walk?

BDC won't leave because he can't do his YouTube thing with the PGA Tour.

Cam Smith doesn't register imo. Nice player but doesn't turn TVs on like Rahm or BDC

In other news, DJ has signed a multi-year extension with LIV.

On Brooks, I'm guessing that letting Brooks taking the gamble that he would be let back on tour might entice players to jump to LIV next year. Definitely a gamble. Definitely a guess on my part.

It's too bad BDC couldn't do the YouTube thing with the tour. It made BDC a huge sensation and in turn he is really the only thing keeping LIV going. The restrictions the tour places on its players really is maddening. They treat the players as independent contractors, then they muzzle them. I don't like LIV, but I get why there was a market for it with the players.

Which restrictions are you referring to?

I will always believe that Phil ruined his legacy and cost himself long-term by not staying on Tour and eventually sliding into Faldo's vacated seat at CBS. He would have been a huge star in the booth who could command way more than a traditional broadcaster because of his reputation and his ability to cross over into other sports CBS could have used him for.

He could have made $15M+/year for the next 25 years doing that, and retired as one of the most beloved figures in the history of golf. But a Tiger can't change his stripes, and Phil eventually became in public who his fellow tour brethren had always whispered he was when the cameras were off.

To add to the post above, Phil was one of the most beloved golf figures in the World 4 years ago when he won the PGA at Kiawah. But his ego and immediate need for cash drove him to make a bunch of stupid decisions. Now he is a pariah no one wants around.

Good start for our boy Ben Griffin at the Sony. Currently T3 and one shot back after the opening round. David Ford is T17 and Ryan Gerard is T59.

Keith Mitchell is the thai spinner guy right? Maybe he was trying to do something outside of the box and it just failed. Def. weird.

He should ask for double that. If they were fine lighting $5B on fire so far, what’s another $1B to keep from having to shutter the whole league?
Yep. Even with Rahm staying, Bryson IS that league at this point. And he really is perfectly happy playing Majors and doing youtube

Bryson says PIF will double down if the Tour and LIV don't have a deal.

This was from a podcast over two years ago. Obviously, a lot has changed since then. LIV is now a dead man walking. They know it, and so does everyone else.

Scheffler is just too dang good.

A popular golf scribe whose name escapes me wrote an article last year titled, "The Inevitability of Scottie Scheffler." I can't think of a better title or summation of what he is doing in the game of golf right now. It has to be so mentally deflating for fellow pros, especially world-class players like Rory, to know that their best isn't nearly good enough. He's just going to keep coming. Maybe you can keep up for two rounds, or three rounds, but the pressure to keep performing knowing that he's not going to falter even a step is just so brutal on the psyche of an athlete.

Scottie entered Sunday tied for the lead with Kim and Brown at -21. Kim shot even par 72 and Brown shot a two-over 74. Were it not for Scottie making a careless double bogey on 17 with a six shot lead, he would have tied for the low round of the day on the entire course. How deflating is that? It's the inevitability of Scottie MFing Scheffler, the second-greatest golfer of the last four decades.

May go on a Twitter stat sharing run here with regards to Scheffler, so I apologize in advance...

I'm going to take the optimistic high road view and say that I hope Reed comes back a changed person. Use it as an opportunity to reinvent yourself and repair your reputation. There was a time when he was an American darling, and he and Justine are solely responsible for the destruction of that reputation. He does seem to have been more humble in the few interviews I've seen with him over the past year.

As much as I wanted these guys to be exiled forever, I know that this is the smart business play for the Tour and kudos to Brian Rolapp for how he's handling this. The advantage of having new blood in his position with no ties to the golf industry is he has been able to remove the emotional component from the decision-making process.
