BTW, I have a photo of me and Richard sometime around spring practice of 1975 or 1976 when I was 7 or 8 years old. It must be in the autograph book I had -- mostly MSU players of the 1970s and 1980s along with Jerry Clower and Walter Payton -- and which should be in my mother's house.
Friday night when he turned to his wife Jennifer and said that something was wrong and the passed out. Long story short his heart cavity had filled with fluid and was shutting down his heart. After a weekend of ups and down he passed on Monday night. The last I heard they were still unsure what cause the condition but feel like it was an infection either viral or otherwise. He was such a tough son of a gun I would bet he had symptoms of the problem earlier and just shook it off. He was a damn good husband and father and a dearfriendto many. He was as tough a competitor as we ever had suit up in maroon and white.
