Fox vs Ulis

I thought it would be interesting that instead of bashing Cal and crying in our beers, that we take a look at Fox vs Ulis. At the first of the year, I didn't think we would miss Tyler at all. Now, I am looking at it a little differently. Fox can be spectacular, at times, and is faster than Ulis. He can also get up for the lob, and with him being taller than Ulis, he should be better defensively, since tyler got posted up a few times.

However, I think that even though he was shorter, Ulis was better defensively, simply because he could keep his man in front of him, and usually got up into his grill. I believe that he ran the team much better, he rarely turned it over, and he was an infinitely better shooter. He was a really good 3 pt shooter, and great from the line.

When the year first began, I thought Fox would make us forget about Ulis, but, I cannot help but think how good this team would be with Tyler running it. Well, those are my thoughts, what about yours?

Ulis also didn't have to step in his first year and be the man. He got a year to learn. Two different styles. Fox is made to play faster so more mistakes will be made. Ulis was very smart and deliberate.

Fox is the better athlete, but Ulis is the better basketball player. Extremely high basketball IQ. I don't recall Cal ever having to call out the plays with Ulis on the floor.

Comparing a Freshman with a Soph isn't fair. They are totally different type players as well. I'd take either one of them.

If Ulis was 6'1" he'd be a top 5 pick. He was unnaturally gifted as a PG. he'll be a coach someday, and it wouldnt surprise me if he coaches at UK, and we'd be lucky to have him. On pure PG skills, the only one who's holds a candle to him is John Wall. Height is the only thing that held him back and he STILL made the NBA. Ulis and it isn't close. It's really unfortunate that in this day and age Ulis wouldn't be staying four years. He'd have this team and next years team at #1 with a bullet.

Actually Ulis was a better freshman point guard than Fox is. Mainly because he wanted to win every possession! Fox hasn't learned how to do that yet, but that doesn't mean he won't before tourney time. But I doubt Fox will be the defensive player that Ulis was! Tyler trusted his teammates and they trusted him! This team trys to achieve success on each player's own talent. That will not get the job done!

Ulis is better at involving teammates, better shooter, better free throw shooter, better defensively and plays harder. The only advantage Fox has is getting to the basket. Ulis is a much better floor general.

Maybe not but we wouldn't have lost to Kansas if Ulis was running the show. He bled blue, fought to the bitter end and led the team. Fox was lobbing telegraphed passes to the Kansas players and he's locked into the NBA. Seems like a great kid and definitely has talent but he's another one that should be a star but it may not be in his college year.

This isn't who will be better, or who has more talent. Despite his shooting, Fox may be more skilled, but Ulis is the better teammate and leader

Ullis by a mile... When Ullis was a freshman. As a sophomore Ullis by light years.

Ullis has a higher BBall IQ. Better on defense. Better shooter. Better passer. Most of all, Ullis has a bigger heart.

Fox has all the tools to make Ullis look like a division lll sub. But he doesn't have the heart that Ullis had. To be fair very few players do.

I loved Tyler Ulis. One of my favorite Cats ever. But he didn't shoulder the responsibility of leading the team as a freshman. Contrary, he was like the backup QB, everyone's favorite. Fox does bear that burden.

It amazes me sometimes how impatient we are with 18 year old freshmen. Shouldn't we expect growing pains? Of course. This isn't football, where growing pains and losses equals eliminated from contention. We've seen twice in the last 6 years turbulence that seemed lethal produce instead final four trips.

And yet, the caterwauling.....

Does not matter to me but comparing Ulis the sophomore to Fox the freshmen is unfair. Ulis had time to develop while a Fox has to be good every game.
