The prevailing brotherhood amongst the coaching profession will not change. They don't think the same way you do. They see it is a successful & winning coach being needlessly being jobbed.
Or maybe they see it as a place that has set their bar pretty damn high and willing to commit the resources needed to win a championship?

We aren’t a win at any cost university.
Tell that to the people that approved the $750M stadium renovations. No one is paying to watch kids solving calculus equations at the 50 yard line or finding the cure for cancer. The goal is to invest whatever it takes to WIN football games so that you can fund the other sports. And as long as you meet the APR standards, the rest is just icing

You will still have to find out the hard way unless a (highly successful) HC or assistant @ any level was a fellow Lion who wants to come back to Beaver. (good luck)
Again, that's not true. It's amazing any program ever hires a good coach.
How'd LSU get Brian Kelly? How'd Georgia get Smart after firing Richt (who was Franklin)?

lol. Spending a **** ton of money on facilities is not the same as hiring a coach that was fired from last HC position for being slimy/shady.

Considering what I understand about the coaching profession it will be very interesting to see what will happen @ Beaver Stadium. Stay tuned.

They understand that but that doesn't change the fact that they won't coach @ beaver until the administration changes. HCJF was still quite successful @ Beaver & that is the way prospective new coaches see it.
You mean the tight coaching fraternity where a coach stole signals from other teams? Or the BIG 10 coach who reported it? Or the coach who blew in Cam Newton? Or every coach who negatively recruits? That tight coaching fraternity? What are you even talking about?

I have visited A&M numerous times. It is no where near as beautiful as Happy Valley, but that community is all in on A&M as much as Happy Valley is on Penn State. Both fans bases are very similar but active Aggies have way more $$$$$$ than active Penn Staters.
I agree it’s not as nice but I did get similar vibes to SC when I was there. Their 12th Man Foundation rakes in the money compared to Happy Valley United.

There will always be good, (some) bad & indifferent in any profession.

Lanning would be the football equivalent of hiring Carl Sanderson. Lanning has spent time on the East Coast in several locations as an assistant. It’s a potential home run hire. Would Lanning’s recent trip yo PSU for the Whiteout make him think of the possibilities? I don’t think it’s out of the question.

Look @ what happened after Corn canned HC Frank Solitch. Coaches around the profession said they would not take the job @ Corn because of that. Wish you would have known that before canning James.
This just seems like such a weird take. If they had fired Franklin for "only" winning 9/10 games a season while continuing to lose to any top foes, then it would have been a fair concern. But he just lost two games that he was favored by double digits. After being a preseason candidate to at least make the playoffs if not win the MNC.

There is no one out there in the coaching ranks who would look at the treatment of Franklin as unreasonable.

Call me crazy, but I have a hunch Penn State is going after Dan Lanning. Adidas would love nothing better than to poach the HC from Nike’s flagship university. PSU will offer to make him the highest paid HC in college football.
Another WTF would he come here. Oregon is Nike playground,

Interesting request about judgement, when in this thread there is:
…You just discouraged any great coach from coaching @ Beaver Stadium because of the brotherhood in the coaching profession. Your only chance is to find a great HC that was a fellow Lion…
And

you have continually stated your opinion that a negative hire will almost assuredly occur without waiting to “see what will happen”.

How does who they hire prove you right?
Do you think no one takes the job and Penn State football dies?
Actually say something

For what it’s worth. My buddy called Saturday night and told me he heard if they fired Franklin and replaced him with Bills def coordinator, Pegula would pay Franklin’s buyout. I laughed.

One of the 2 worst ADs in PSU history.... and one of the worst ever in the profession.

But this particular albatross is (largely) not her's.
If you are pointing to Joyner yes he was responsible for the original hire but wasn’t the extension after the big ten championship the catalyst of the issue wasn’t that under dandy sandy? As well as the 2nd extension?

Joyner? Nah, not (IMO anyway) here as AD long enough, or involved enough, to be in the same league with the other 2.

Lanning essentially has unlimited money and resources at Oregon. Penn State would be a gigantic step down. Virtually zero chance he makes that move unless his parents live in Bellefonte or something.

Matt Rhule would be a sad, embarrassing hire. Talk about Saban or Meyer is so incredibly sad. Why not just advocate for a cardboard cutout of JoePa as the "new" coach?
