AlsoCoughlin’s Law: “Everything ends badly, otherwise it would never end”
So he's bringing Phil Knight with him too? Done deal.Lanning would be the football equivalent of hiring Carl Sanderson. Lanning has spent time on the East Coast in several locations as an assistant. It’s a potential home run hire. Would Lanning’s recent trip yo PSU for the Whiteout make him think of the possibilities? I don’t think it’s out of the question.
Can you prove it? Ask any coach about it.There’s coaches right now saying, “Here’s my chance.” There is no tight coaching fraternity.
Prove what you're saying? Can you prove it? Ask any coach about it.
Corn is also a high profile football coaching destination. Do remember what happened when they canned Frank Solitch? You’re kidding? Come on, this is Penn State. It’s going to attract high quality candidates.
Just tell me what happened to Corn after they canned Frank Solitch. (WELL?)Lol but you arent saying anything
How does who they hire prove you right?
Do you think no one takes the job and Penn State football dies?
Actually say something
What happened to Corn after they canned Frank Solitch after he went 10-3?Interesting request about judgement, when in this thread there is:
And
and
And
you have continually stated your opinion that a negative hire will almost assuredly occur without waiting to “see what will happen”.
We're not Nebraska.Just tell me what happened to Corn after they canned Frank Solitch. (WELL?)
They made bad decisions because they wanted guys with NFL tiesWhat happened to Corn after they canned Frank Solitch after he went 10-3?
There's no reason to believe Addias and/or Pegula want a Paterno guy lolRhule is not my top choice but I don't have a vote. The donors who funded this buyout do though and they may very well push for a "Paterno guy". Remember this will be a highly political process. I don't envy Kraft.
There is a difference between potentially great coaches & wanna bes. This just seems like such a weird take. If they had fired Franklin for "only" winning 9/10 games a season while continuing to lose to any top foes, then it would have been a fair concern. But he just lost two games that he was favored by double digits. After being a preseason candidate to at least make the playoffs if not win the MNC.
There is no one out there in the coaching ranks who would look at the treatment of Franklin as unreasonable.
And Franklin wasn't a great coach and didn't have potential--what is your point? There is a difference between potentially great coaches & wanna bes.
You can prove it to yourself by asking any successful coach (present or former) before replying.Prove what you're saying?
Oh that's right--you haven't actually said anything other than "coaches don't like when other coaches get fired"
Lol the pure ridiculousness is awesomeYou can prove it to yourself by asking any successful coach (present or former) before replying.
Did those previous coaches between the hedges or @ Kyle Field have the same win/loss as James did? We're not Nebraska.
You're pretending they didn't want Callahan--it was a bad hire but no one was boycotting that job
This is the dumbest argument I've seen here and I get along great with opposing fans--it's usually the Penn State fan base that's this stupid
Again--how did Georgia get Smart after firing Richt? How did A&M get Elko? How did LSU get Brian Kelly after firing a guy that recently won a title?
Again--this is the dumbest argument ever made here and that's mighty impressive
Who are those "donors"?Rhule is not my top choice but I don't have a vote. The donors who funded this buyout do though and they may very well push for a "Paterno guy". Remember this will be a highly political process. I don't envy Kraft.
James Franklin is literally Mark Richt 2.0Did those previous coaches between the hedges or @ Kyle Field have the same win/loss as James did?
How many refusals did Corn have before settling on Bill Calahan late? They made bad decisions because they wanted guys with NFL ties
Just say whatever you want to say
Did the previous coach @ the hedges have James win/loss?And Franklin wasn't a great coach and didn't have potential--what is your point?
Penn State doesn't need to hire Kirby Smart or Dan Lanning for this to be the right call
Honestly, if you think hiring a young coach, like Georgia did with Smart, is a mistake then you're an idiot.
Again they wanted an NFL guyHow many refusals did Corn have before settling on Bill Calahan late?
Ask one then reply.Lol the pure ridiculousness is awesome
Elko Smart and Kelly prove your theory wrong
His winning percentage was betterDid the previous coach @ the hedges have James win/loss?
Listen...you have no clue what you're talking about and keep proving that. No one gives a **** about other situations. They'll take the job they think is best.Ask one then reply.
You saw what happened with Bill Calahan @ Corn. So good luck on your coaching search nevertheless.Again they wanted an NFL guy
No one is claiming we're going to get Dan Lanning lol
Shove the good luck nonsense where it belongsYou saw what happened with Bill Calahan @ Corn. So good luck on your coaching search nevertheless.
Firing Franklin would suggest otherwiseWe aren’t a win at any cost university.
Was he a former Bulldog or have any kind of connection there? His winning percentage was better
So BETTER than him
If I was a Lion I would be extremely concerned based on what happened after Corn canned Frank Solitch & we canned Dana Altman (another James) @ the Octagon. For your sake hope you get extremely lucky finding your next HC @ Beaver.Listen...you have no clue what you're talking about and keep proving that. No one gives a **** about other situations. Penn State is looking for Dan Lanning or Kirby Smart. Just because you accept mediocrity doesn't mean others do
Again what the hell are you talking about? Was he a former Bulldog or have any kind of connection there?

I really like the idea of Gruden as the non-traditional pick. Seems to be liked by players and has strong sense of accountability. He has strong game management skills. Would have access to full realm of assistants. Only question mark I see is his ability/desire to recruit. But that can be overcome. Definitely worth some consideration.I've thought about this all day and think there is little chance of Cig leaving IU (for all we know PSU has no interest in him anyway). From the rest of the college ranks, I'd take Manny I guess. Outside of that, Gruden all day long. We would have so much fun here.
