Mentioning Lanning is literally just making sure you're mad about whatever actually happens lol
Will Stein makes way more sense

Lanning would be the football equivalent of hiring Carl Sanderson. Lanning has spent time on the East Coast in several locations as an assistant. It’s a potential home run hire. Would Lanning’s recent trip yo PSU for the Whiteout make him think of the possibilities? I don’t think it’s out of the question.
So he's bringing Phil Knight with him too? Done deal.

Another younger name to watch--Glenn Schumann (Georgia DC)--I'd prefer an offensive guy but we'd play a pro-style offense under him

You’re kidding? Come on, this is Penn State. It’s going to attract high quality candidates.
Corn is also a high profile football coaching destination. Do remember what happened when they canned Frank Solitch?

Lol but you arent saying anything
How does who they hire prove you right?
Do you think no one takes the job and Penn State football dies?
Actually say something
Just tell me what happened to Corn after they canned Frank Solitch. (WELL?)

Interesting request about judgement, when in this thread there is:

And

and

And

you have continually stated your opinion that a negative hire will almost assuredly occur without waiting to “see what will happen”.
What happened to Corn after they canned Frank Solitch after he went 10-3?

Rhule is not my top choice but I don't have a vote. The donors who funded this buyout do though and they may very well push for a "Paterno guy". Remember this will be a highly political process. I don't envy Kraft.

We're not Nebraska.
You're pretending they didn't want Callahan--it was a bad hire but no one was boycotting that job
This is the dumbest argument I've seen here and I get along great with opposing fans--it's usually the Penn State fan base that's this stupid

Again--how did Georgia get Smart after firing Richt? How did A&M get Elko? How did LSU get Brian Kelly after firing a guy that recently won a title?

Again--this is the dumbest argument ever made here and that's mighty impressive

There's no reason to believe Addias and/or Pegula want a Paterno guy lol
Some of the fan base may but no one that matters cares

This just seems like such a weird take. If they had fired Franklin for "only" winning 9/10 games a season while continuing to lose to any top foes, then it would have been a fair concern. But he just lost two games that he was favored by double digits. After being a preseason candidate to at least make the playoffs if not win the MNC.

There is no one out there in the coaching ranks who would look at the treatment of Franklin as unreasonable.
There is a difference between potentially great coaches & wanna bes.

And Franklin wasn't a great coach and didn't have potential--what is your point?
Penn State doesn't need to hire Kirby Smart or Dan Lanning for this to be the right call
Honestly, if you think hiring a young coach, like Georgia did with Smart, is a mistake then you're an idiot.

Prove what you're saying?
Oh that's right--you haven't actually said anything other than "coaches don't like when other coaches get fired"
You can prove it to yourself by asking any successful coach (present or former) before replying.

Did those previous coaches between the hedges or @ Kyle Field have the same win/loss as James did?

Ask one then reply.
Listen...you have no clue what you're talking about and keep proving that. No one gives a **** about other situations. They'll take the job they think is best.

Penn State is looking for Dan Lanning or Kirby Smart. Just because you accept mediocrity doesn't mean others do

You saw what happened with Bill Calahan @ Corn. So good luck on your coaching search nevertheless.
Shove the good luck nonsense where it belongs
Nebraska has nothing to do with us and you lost the entire argument when you didn't know Richt had more success at Georgia than Franklin at Penn State

This response (not from me) to Josh Pate's pathetic, hypocritical youtube diatribe pretty much sums it up.

"Paterno 11-33 against top 5 teams, 1-18 Franklin. Paterno 8-9 against ohio state, 1-10 Franklin. 9 wins a year average through paternos whole career at Penn state, with 2 less games per year to get there. 2 national championships, 5 undefeated seasons, 5 1 loss seasons. Franklin 0 to everything I just said, with more games per year same average wins per year. Paterno 22-17-1 against top 10 teams, Franklin 4-21.

There you go “analyst” , I mean at least analyze google. That’s why he was fired, the guy isn’t good enough for Penn state, you can’t be 7th in current nfl players and 8th in draft picks and go 1-18 against top 5 teams, that's called a talent waster, and program ruiner. It’s not even a trash take, it’s literally all hot air, no facts."

His winning percentage was better
So BETTER than him
Was he a former Bulldog or have any kind of connection there?

If I was a Lion I would be extremely concerned based on what happened after Corn canned Frank Solitch & we canned Dana Altman (another James) @ the Octagon. For your sake hope you get extremely lucky finding your next HC @ Beaver.

Again what the hell are you talking about?
You don't keep a coach out of fear. Franklin needed to go. No luck is needed. The next hire will or won't work. That's life but keeping Franklin to remain mediocre is worse than the unknown. Might as well be 3-9 if you aren't winning titles. There's one goal.

Shouldn’t they at least interview Huff, Hartline, and Brown. These are gambles but you just fired a guy that wins 10 games basically 2 out of every 3 years. I would think you’re not hiring for just tens wins this time.

If they’re not gambling then hire Diaz or Lea. Program will be stable and compete for playoff spots.

I've thought about this all day and think there is little chance of Cig leaving IU (for all we know PSU has no interest in him anyway). From the rest of the college ranks, I'd take Manny I guess. Outside of that, Gruden all day long. We would have so much fun here.

I really like the idea of Gruden as the non-traditional pick. Seems to be liked by players and has strong sense of accountability. He has strong game management skills. Would have access to full realm of assistants. Only question mark I see is his ability/desire to recruit. But that can be overcome. Definitely worth some consideration.
