Make any other year in recruiting, there’s going to be plenty of de commits. You never know, these guys might like the new hire and come back. Either way, I wouldn’t worry about recruiting for two months.
It's just funny to me that there will be people on here who are going to let the opinions of juniors and even sophomores in HS ruin their days. Besides, with the portal being what it is now, you can build a team year-by-year with proven talent rather than trying to cultivate hit-or-miss prospects.

Decommits everywhere right now from PSU until new coach is hired. Also with the portal decommits are not as big a thing as they used to be
We will never know, but how many would have decommitted after a 5 to 7 loss season?

Question for folks ... If PSU was not doing $700 million stadium renovations do you think JF would still be coaching PSU? Let him finish the season and see if he could turn it around? Did the stadium renovations force PSU's hand?

Honestly, I was wondering that last night. Most were saying he wouldn’t be fired because of the buyout but I wondered how the stadium reno would play into that.

$50 million is a lot of money but you now also have a $700 million project. That stadium upgrade depends on people shelling out ridiculous amounts of money for luxury boxes, regular donations, etc. Does the risk of losing that support outweigh the ridiculous buyout for Franklin?

I’m really surprised they fired Franklin now rather than at end of season in a few weeks. I think the stadium renovation most likely played a part in that decision.

You are correct, Cignetti built a team from JMU & Ohio U transfers.

Finally! Next seasons coach? I'd bet on Terry Smith. That's especially true if the team plays better.

Wow, I am truly sad that it worked out this way. He’s a good guy.

It had to happen, but I am sad. James Franklin is a good man and I thank him for the way he represented us and the many successes the program had under his leadership. He did not take the program where any of us wanted, but I know that it pains him more than anyone.

I wish him success and happiness wherever he goes.

I’m surprised they pulled the trigger now. I thought they’d wait until the end of the season and use the time to get their ducks in order. Kraft would have had some cover while he got things in motion.

They simultaneously just pulled the fans to their side, lowered everyone's expectations for the rest of the season and bought themselves plenty of time to find a replacement, ahead of a lot of other teams that will need to do the same at the end of the season. I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't already in place, and last night just sealed it.

the internet moves 100 mph. I’m shocked and happy State pulled the trigger. Hope is better than booing your dead man walking coach off the field for 2 months. Imagine the rumors and schit talking that would be coming out of the Franklin camp mid nov, it would have been devastating toxic even.

I’m hoping against hope that that means he already had done some work starting with the very poor start in the Oregon game despite the decent finish but certainly last week after UCLA…hoping they have already narrowed field of those who are Interested

We are all just one new manager, director, VP away from the unemployment line.
Not me. I have tenure.
I haven’t posted on here since the Oregon game. The game kind of did me in. Last week’s game put a nail in the season for me. I didn’t watch a second of the game yesterday. I can’t remember a time when I missed a game that I could have watched. I like Franklin. He seems like a good dude. But it was time for him to go. He looked like he had no answers left.

Terms of the contract for termination by the university call for $8 million for every year remaining on the deal, which would be $48 million for the life of the contract, plus roughly $1.5 million remaining on the 2025 cycle. The publicly available term sheet does not specify the university’s obligation to pay as a lump sum or annually, nor an offset clause for other income earned, nor the possibility of a negotiated reduction in responsibility in case of a lump-sum payment----On3

Pure nonsense.
How was it nonsense--he was a top 50 pick and CJF convinced him to come back. That's a horrible coach--he should have pushed him to the NFL. That's what was best for Drew. it was pure selfish by Franklin. Thankfully it cost him his job.

I can imagine today in Tallahassee there is more pressure on Norvell from the AD and more pressure on the AD from wealthy donors to make a move. I can imagine in Bloomington Cignetti’s agent is telling their AD that he is expecting a call from PSU and it’s time to again renegotiate the contract.
If i were Penn State, i'd do what everyone else does. Start Cignetti to PSU, Hartline to PSU, Freeman to PSU etc.

Anyone else just stunned that PSU pulled the trigger? Did they negotiate a settlement? I can’t believe it. It does send a powerful, and necessary message though. My guess is Franklin played ball a bit to work this out.
Absolutely. I think his ego was bruised from the boos and his family had enough of what they perceived as undeserved criticism.

It will be interesting to see if the deal terms come out. But I suspect he told Kraft he was willing to leave for less than full value.
