I agree that this was the right decision, but I’m quite sad that it came to this. There are so many things CJF did the right way, it sucks that he couldn’t break through this personal performance ceiling he’s been stuck under.

I’m disappointed in Penn Staters who are treating this as a moment to celebrate. It’s an extremely lamentable moment. Feel relieved, sure — I’ll admit that I do at this point. Feel hopeful for what a change might (MIGHT!) bring for our program. But celebrating? That’s sh!tty. :(
There is a chance this goes sideways. Next hire MUST be a homerun.

If the Rhule #1 candidate reports are true…

Never watch another game.

His record vs top teams is oddly similar to Franklin’s besides never winning anything of note. PLEASE NO PAT KRAFT.

I know a lot of people on this board will be excited. I have mixed feelings. Yes, it was probably time for him to go. However, turnover at the college level brings with it a lot of uncertainty and can have big impact on recruiting, which was a strength of Franklin's. Also, I am concerned about who is up next.
Very excited. Maybe this team will be exciting to watch h again. For the last few years it’s been hard to get excited for a game against top competition. Franklin lost them all.

That's his problem. He was given every opportunity to succeed to failed.
I hope for the rest of his life he regrets talking Allar into returning instead giving of doing what was best for Drew
I hope for the rest of his life he regrets the countless poor decisions he's made
I don't believe he will. I think you all have made him into something he wasn't as a person. He was beyond selfish.
You’re pathetic dude

The same handful of people are projecting their own shortcomings...constantly.

LOL.... You'd tell 20 people at your intervention they were wrong and projecting their shortcomings because you have no self awareness at all.

He walked away with 49M not to coach
He lost almost every big game he had in 12 years
He just lost back to back against NW and UCLA. With the UCLA loss actually being historical In a negative way.
But it's ****** to celebrate a decision that was overdue? He's not an 18 year old kid playing football. He's a grown *** man that failed...continuously. Of course people are celebrating.

Im wondering that also. Kraft may have a short list of realistic viable candidates already.
I hope he has a list of realistic viable candidates but there's zero chance there is a solid verbal less than 24 hours after the game ended. That would be crazy.

If only I needed an intervention. Sounds like you're speaking from experience.

I'm very self aware. I just don't care what idiots think about me.

Beat me to this posting. Hope this is not true! Highly doubt it.
Don’t get the plural with before recent losses part. Sure, being upset about the Oregon loss, but cause to fire? Everything was still in play (except perfect season).

Adidas may be assisting some amount, but doubt we’ll find out unless the new hire has PSU go on to beat Oregon in next years NC game.

You get an intervention nearly every day on this board.... No self awareness....

Unless they are hiring someone not currently coaching? Meyer? Gruden? Saban?

No need to feel bad for him, Franklin brought the team as far as he was able to from a bad situation - a top 2nd tier team........Next.

You seem to fail continuously at being a decent human being.

Can we fire you as a poster and “fan” and celebrate?

True. Very true. But this season has already taken a swan dive into the crapper. Im glad they made a move. Something had to be done. The team, including Franklin, has mailed it in. Hopefully Smith plays whoever is expected to be in the 2 deep next year. In my opinion, he owes nothing to the 5th year big NIL guys.

I said this before, hopefully Kraft brings in somebody like Saban to help. He's one of the best to ever coach and has a pretty good coaching tree.

If you were paying me and I failed to live up to your expectations of course you could

Again he was paid 49M to walk away...why am I feeling bad for his when he was fired because of his own failures. That's part of coaching. If he wanted to be here then he should have won more.

Im definitely not expecting that either. Now that Kraft actually pulled the trigger, maybe more candidates will come forward. Kraft has a little bit of time here.

Why in the world would Saban up and decide he has a connection to PSU?

Really like Smith but that hire wouldn’t move any needle.
Not sure why a lot of people speak of coach Smith. He coached at Gateway high school and was dominant in Southwestern PA. But a lot of that success came from bringing in kids that were not originally from the school district. After he left, Gateway became mediocre because those kids were no longer being recruited in a sense. So is he a good coach, I am not sure.

Not me. I have tenure.
I haven’t posted on here since the Oregon game. The game kind of did me in. Last week’s game put a nail in the season for me. I didn’t watch a second of the game yesterday. I can’t remember a time when I missed a game that I could have watched. I like Franklin. He seems like a good dude. But it was time for him to go. He looked like he had no answers left.
With you, the final 2-3 minutes of the 1st half against UCLA was the “it moment” for me, let alone being down 20 at the time…
