Shouldn’t they at least interview Huff, Hartline, and Brown. These are gambles but you just fired a guy that wins 10 games basically 2 out of every 3 years. I would think you’re not hiring for just tens wins this time.

If they’re not gambling then hire Diaz or Lea. Program will be stable and compete for playoff spots.
Brown is enticing because of his recruiting ability but has a small body of work. I thought Diaz did a good job here and basically got shafted at Miami where he had winning records. Doing well at Duke so far. Huff is a solid guy but would be underwhelming. I think Lea is a solid coach but would be again underwhelming. I think Rhule is a respectable coach and is the most likely. Campbell has done an excellent job at a pedestrian Iowa State program but never have been impressed with the Big 12. Gruden pass. He is an NFL guy. Dillingham is a young up and comer but is an ASU alum.

We're not Nebraska.
You're pretending they didn't want Callahan--it was a bad hire but no one was boycotting that job
This is the dumbest argument I've seen here and I get along great with opposing fans--it's usually the Penn State fan base that's this stupid

Again--how did Georgia get Smart after firing Richt? How did A&M get Elko? How did LSU get Brian Kelly after firing a guy that recently won a title?

Again--this is the dumbest argument ever made here and that's mighty impressive
What has Elko dine to deserve all the praise?

I'm glad we aren't relying on The BWI message board crew to hire the next HC. Pat Kraft is miles in front of you guys (as he should be).

I've thought about this all day and think there is little chance of Cig leaving IU (for all we know PSU has no interest in him anyway). From the rest of the college ranks, I'd take Manny I guess. Outside of that, Gruden all day long. We would have so much fun here.
I don’t understand the ‘Cignetti isn’t going to leave Indiana’ idea that popped up yesterday

While coaches don’t like someone getting fired, that won’t prevent them for lining up for a good job. PSU is a great job, so lack of interest won’t be a problem

There's no reason to believe Addias and/or Pegula want a Paterno guy lol
Some of the fan base may but no one that matters cares
No one should want a Paterno. Everything that Joe believed in is out of the window now. These guys are professionals are getting paid. Just a few years back that was considered the worst thing to get caught doing.

Education? Plsyers are making few hundred thousand a year to a few million a year while getting paid to play. All they have to do is stay eligible. That grand experiment doesn't exist anymore and if you want to be competitive in football you're going to have to put out for the best players, coach them up, and win championships.

There is zero chance we hire Gruden with the email controversy from his past.

I may be misremembering, but I believe the Nebraska AD at the time of the Solich-to-Callahan move was a Pitt guy. That might have something to do with it.

For a short while, even mighty Bama was going thru HCs like underclothing. Sometimes you have to throw away a few bad eggs to get a magnificent omelet.

Well, all I can say is, it's Monday morning, and I'm happy that Penn State's getting a new HC. That move was way past due. The rest of the season is forfeit, but it pretty much was anyway what with Allar's injury, the overall play by the rest of the team, and of course the coaching. I believe we all have a lot to look forward to in the coming years, and a breakthrough may occur sooner than we think. Having the ability to beat top ten teams will be a giant step in the right direction!

P.S. - If the rumors are true, thank you so much to Adidas. I have my favorite "around the house" Adidas slip-on sneakers on this morning. I'll be smiling every time I see the name.

Talking head discourse around this is so weird. This says it all:

It’s true that it is a very risky move. I believe it had to happen at this point as the team was not doing the very basics in what was believed to be a natty type season. But it’s true that it has the potential to send us to Nebraska and Florida territories as much as it has the chance to get us over the hump to win it all.

Exactly....we still don't block, offense was a huge struggle, QB regression....baffling playing time allocations, the constant 2-3 shocking coaching gaffs a week.....things were just not going to get better, regardless of how many 9-10 win seasons Franklin accumulated.

The tavern…
Where is the poster that actually staked out the State College Airport during the last hire? That was definition of “fanatic”, but was an epic thread. I don’t remember which board that was with all of the consolidations and buyouts.

”With the two losses, Penn State became the first team since the FBS and FCS split in 1978 to lose consecutive games while favored by 20 or more points in each game, according to ESPN Research.”

Not that I have seen. Hasn't updated his X (Twitter account) still has HC of PSU. I would assume at some point this week he will release an official statement.

I hope he lands somewhere in need of his talents; UNC IMO would be a home run. You could tell he has not been himself since Oregon. He looks defeated and unmotivated; the opposite of how he usually presents himself. He did a ton of great things at Penn State - unfortunately the expectations created by a near billion dollar investment in the football program crushed him in the process. It's a devil's wager - he bet on himself and lost.

Totally agree. He is a good person and family man. He embraced and represented PSU extremely well in his time here. He took the program up another level just couldn't get over the top. He is a PA guy, PSU was his dream school. If he wants to still coach I hope he ends up at a place like UNC or VT. He would be a good fit for those programs. If he doesn't want to coach I think he would be a good tv analyst. Well thought out and spoken. Wish him and his family nothing but the best.

Does Adidas want PSU poaching a coach from another Adidas school (NU, IU) or would they like to hit Nike where it hurts most. I think Kraft is thinking way bigger than anyone on this board is currently thinking. To my surprise, I don’t know that money is an issue either. Adidas must want to make a big splash in the college football world.

Does anyone think the continued lawsuit by the former team doctor contributed to all of this?

Good point. At the very least, it didn’t help. I’m sure it was a distraction, as it could have led to questions by recruits and their parents. Franklin also seems like a thinker and one who doesn’t easily dismiss things. I also believe that he cares about people and what people think of him. The lawsuit likely weighed on him.

There are no other Franklin's out there to be sure. We've been spoiled at Penn State but with that familiarity and comfort came a lot of leeway, which is unsustainable once fans have decided their money is better spent elsewhere due to results on the field. If everyone thought like you, my guess is our NIL funding would be through the roof.

The bottom line is that Franklin did not win big games and that this season was a mess, even without the huge expectations.

I’m sad because I saw a young Franklin in 2014 passionate about being the Penn State coach. Over the years, I feel like that passion waned. Some of that is likely due to building pressure to win, but I’m sure the frustrations of fighting for money for the program, especially when dealing with the likes of Sandy and barren, took their toll.

This has to be hard on Franklin right now, but in time, hopefully soon, he will probably feel a great sense of relief.

I'll be hanging around as I am still a PSU football fan. I am a Paterno fan. I am a Franklin fan boy. Not so much a BOT fanboy. For twenty years+, I have supported the school. No longer. Watch your back brothers. Sure, as the sun rises in the east, they'll throw you in the fire.
They'll sit in their boxes and fiddle as Rome burns. It's a sad day... Terry, watch your ***, the pendulum is on its way back, as we type. The dumpster fire continues from the dark days of 2021.

CJF will bounce back and will be successful. He banked on the returning players, and pretty
much gave them what they wanted, they got their money and they let him down, the blocking ,
tackling, passing, and route running were atrocious, and he took the fall for his players.
