This loss is going to kill us. Not only are we not going to be a national seed. They are probably going to take our host away. We lost the series to Ole Miss, you know, and they have a Top 20 RPI. Arkansas improved their RPI to 31. And South Carolina is going to be ahead of us in RPI.

Oh wait, that loss to the #1 team in the country and probable #1 seed did not effect our RPI ranking, and technically only dropped us 0.0025 basis points and actually improved our strength of schedule?

We have some of the worst bandwagon fans in America. We're hosting, period. And if it makes you feel better, Oregon is skulldragging Utah so the national seed was probably out of the picture anyway. I'm cheering for UNC to beat NC State, so Florida State gets a national seed that we can be matched up against. Not only do I think we could beat FSU, I think there are teams that will be sent to Florida State for a regional (South Alabama, Florida, maybe) that can win a regional there and have to travel to MSU for a Super Regional.

I'm fine with the loss today. We accomplished what we needed to this weekend. Winning 4 SEC games in 5 days is a difficult task. It amazes me a few fail to grasp hold of that concept. We solidified our regional host while the South Carolina/Arkansas debate heats up. Next weekend is going to be great.

Cause we have 3-4 knee jerk fans we are the worst bandwagon fans in America? Once again the effects of a message board are unjustly weighed.

I admit, probably hyperbole, but 3-4 on here, 3-4 more on Facebook, 1 encountered in real life.

We have the worst bandwagon fans in America.

You have met some sad sacks then. I hate to hear that. The State people I know and usually meet are as steady as they come.

If there are State fans out there that jump the wagon they are not only impatient but also very disappointed.

I'm very happy with our team's accomplishments this week! Hell I think we might have been the second best team at the Tournament this year. Lsu got an easier trip to the final.

Could be wrong here but I was under the impression that if FSU loses their regional it would'nt necessarily mean we overtake the host spot for the SR. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't think we're prominent enough in any sport to have "bandwagon fans." However, I get your point. State does have a lot of mental breakdown fans, where if we don't win the current game in question, all is lost, and we'll never be there. I don't live in MS, so most of those fans I witness here. Yet, I think they are still fans, for let's be honest, if you're a State fan you're going to continue to be. We're just on the cusp of greatness in a certain sports and fan support is growing. These fans are newer fans, and they vent their frustration immediately without check, for that's the world of instant gratification/instant "analysis" that we live in.

Edited to add: I tried to reply to the original thread. I obviously didn't.

If we are the #1 seed and host a regional, we are guaranteed to host against anyone in the opposite regional except for the #1 seed.

A #2 seed isn't guaranteed to host a #3 or #4 seed from an opposite regional, but #1 seeds are. And in 2007, we were a #2 seed and Clemson was a #2 seed, so it went to committee. If Coastal Carolina would have beaten Clemson, we would have been going to Myrtle Beach.

Exactly. We nailed down the regional host without any question. Might have had an outside shot at a national seed if we'd won it, but that would have been gravy. Biggest concern in the NCAAT is the starting pitching. And that wasn't going to change whether we won the SECT or went out today.

My goodness. Step away from the ledge.

We're hosting a regional...we're just not National seeds.
