Just wanted to start this thread because I ripped in the first half for his offensive ability

I thought he was much better in the second half but he seemed more content to only put the ball on the floor once and actually shoot from where he was. Did he play above his ability with making those shots yesterday, or is that something to build on for him? I'll admit I don't go or watch many of the games but I'm used to seeing him try to drive to the basket and get rejected.

He fights hard and gets more rebounds than anyone. On the offensive side he's a little smaller than many guys defending him and that's where he has some trouble. He's has up and downs like most guys. He made some tough shots against psu.

One of the best put-back players you will ever see, at least in a Rutgers uniform.

i think/hope Freeman will improve a ton next year. He will have an entire offseason to reflect with the coaching staff what he needs to do to succeed at this level. there was a reason he was named captain in the preseason. I think he will take it upon himself to get better. That would include a perimeter game and getting in even better shape.

Freeman is a player that we would lose a lot more games without. He has bad habits like all players, and as RU bball fans we are able to notice those things more because we are used to 25 years of it and also insecure about our team and players all the time. It's also generally easier to pick on the bad things.
Freeman when he gets the ball in the post with his back to the hoop, a lot of times he tries some move against someone bigger and it results in a turnover, a bad shot, etc. He also makes some not strong enough passes sometimes.
However, he fights for position on both ends, gets rebounds like crazy, gets putbacks to go, and occasionally he hits those tough shots with his back to the hoop. He also can hit the 3 and has a few times this season, including the clutch 3 in the Nebraska game that basically kept us in it and gave us the chance to win.
The whole team needs to practice free throws. It's about talent shooting but it's also muscle memory and it doesn't have to be perfect but it can be significantly better than it is now.

if we get just ONE MORE "scrapper" like Freeman next year

we will see improvement

I have a feeling coach P will find a JR transfer 'scrapper"
and
I think one of our new guys will surprise us at PG

Remember, Freeman was hurt last year and hadn't played against B1G competition, so he has had to learn to adjust his game for this level. He has shown that he can do that, and contribute using his strengths. Next year he can improve and contribute even more. Meanwhile he brings the heart, desire, hustle and toughness every day.

I don't expect a perimeter game to develop, but IMO that's a good thing , as I think it's better for the team if he just stays within himself and limits his shots that aren't put backs.

Theoretically, it should be easier to get extra offense on the perimeter from the 2 or 3 positions next year than developing Freeman to do so at the 4. I used to think he'd have to develop a mid range game but at this point I've abandoned that thought process.

You need freeman to be able to step out nail the 15-17 foot shot which he is capable of....in order to create spacing

Power forward without range means the guy guarding him slumps back unless he is setting top of the key screens

..which negates Freeman's quickness for his position
