at Ole Miss when he has been a successful head coach at an FBS school? The only thing that makes sense at all is that he is being interviewed for the Head Coaching position. It is not like Ole Miss is some great assistant coach stepping stone. He is in a good situation where he is at until a team like Ole Miss, Kansas, North Carolina, State, or something comes calling for a Head Coach.

I'm not buying it. I wouldn't take a step backwards for a possible future promotion. Plus I don't believe the "big name" coach rumors.

Makes perfect sense he would get an interview for hc. To do otherwise would be a slap in the face. The only way he interviewed for oc would be if we already had a hc like Smart who wants Freeze as an oc and we pay him a lot. I'm not buying it. That was a hc interview.

Damn! Oh well, there's always Gruden and Cowher to fall back on.

FTR...I think we're looking straight down the barrel at Fedora, Freeze, or Smart. I would prefer Briles, but don't think that's an option.

It had to be for the HC job.. These Bears just don't want to admit that they can't pull a Big Name Coach..
But Freeze did interview...

is he a name that strikes fear in the hearts of others, "NO".........He's not the kinda guy that's gonna come in andjust gets recruits because of his name.....There's no awe factor in his hire............For the type of money the Rebs keep saying they have, they damn sure don't have a lot of suitors............

Reminds me of a scene in "Hang'em High".........

Eastwood (Freeze) says: Seems like you're a man trying to give away money and don't have too many takers.
Judge (Boone)says: You sound like a man protesting the pay is too high. Don't!

won a N/C and had developed two great QB's (Smith/Tebow)......There is a difference here my friend.......When Mullen was at Florida, Freeze was spending his time at Lambuth and as a position coach at Ole Miss.......Again, he's a decent coach but for the amount of money the Rebs claim they have, I would be disappointed with this hire if I were a Bear........

Now, he's likely to go 3-0 against them.

He was an OC winning his 2nd NC in 3 years- most of them were shocked we were able to hire him

from kirby smart. a coordinator under the wing of a successful coach that coaches that side of the ball. at least smart is known as a good recruiter and has ties to the area though.

I find it really funny..almost hysterical, that a rival coach that is in all likelihood, about to go to 3-0 against your sorry asses tomorrow is considered by you as a bad hire. Seriously? When you guys get back to where you can routinely beat Vandy and La Tech, pull an occasional win over State, and make a bowl game again...THEN and only THEN will we maybe listen to you when it comes to good/bad coaching hires. Afterall, if history has taught us anything it's that 3-4 years from now you guys are gonna get to do this hiring thing all over again. Maybe one day practice will make perfect.

edited to take out double sentence.

If Ole Miss 17s this hire, it could set them back a decade easily. With the shambles that that team is already in, a bad hire would only complete the destruction, and we would get to watch them go 3-9, 4-8 for another three or four years at least.

that if Freeze interviewed, it wasn't for an OC position.

That is UM does indeed hire Freeze, then their entire fanbase will carry him from Batesville to Biloxi on their shoulders and tout him as the next Urban Meyer instead of the former Pimp of Briarcrest High.

I'm ready for the game.

Oh, I'll never forget the crap we caught over that first Egg Bowl with Hootin Dale at the helm in Oxford.Ole Miss was back, baby. They were back at the top of the SEC where they belonged. They were the most talented team in the conference, and that first 9-4 just proved it. Delusion ran wild. Snead for Heisman. Dark horse SEC champs. Dark horse National Champs. The blue bloods up on the ole plantation were positively giddy with Mint Juleps and euphoria. Ole Miss was never going back to the dark days of 3-9 again, no sirree, bob. Those Arkansas fans were crazy.........

They can't get a Big Name coach and it looks like are trying to get the next great young gun..
I am really enjoying the drama so far...
