There's 5 teams at either 14-13 or 14-14. We don't want to wind up with the 9th best record in the SEC. Somebody with 14 SEC wins will get left out this year. Mark it down. I don't think it will be us though, but it still could be.

Vandy just has to make sure they have a winning record

I said CWS by year 3 and then every other year. We came up 2 innings short last year- it happens. Our next big run will be in Year 5

Per the SEC as reported by Brandon Marcello
Since the SEC went to a 30-game schedule in 1996, every team with 16 or more wins has made it.

Twenty-nine teams have won 13-15 SEC games and made the field. But 13 teams have been left out despite winning 14 or 15 conference games, according to the SEC.

They're not going to take 9 SEC teams. You can take that to the bank.

we were around 10 spots higher in the RPI last year around this time of the year as compared to where we are this year. Is that about correct?

that Year 4 would be the "other year". But whatever - I hope we make it so Coach34 can gloat.

Unlike Coach34 hoping Tyler Russell fails.

But I'm not really sure why he's gloating about just getting in the tournament. I don't think anybody (except maybe a few lunatics) ever said we wouldn't make the tournament this year. Our program is exactly what I've been saying it is for 2 years. It's Polk II, version 2.0. Good pitching, bad hitting, .500 or below in the SEC, a lot of regionals, very rarelyhost, and rarely advance to a super. Next year will be more of the same. The pitching won't be quite as good, the hitting will be better, and we'll be on the bubble late in the season.

Just sayin. You said "rarely advance to a super", but we did in year 3 and have a chance in year 4.

It is 50-50 that MSU makes the tournament at 14 and 16

I also think this team will not lose its next four games ... however, saying we are in now and is the same as saying "Our next basketball coach is one of these three" and it turning out not be any of those three

and say he'll be .500 even if he doesn't make a super this year. But I haven't seen anything either last year or this year to indicate that making a super won't be rare. It's rare for a #3 seed to win a regional and it almost never happens without the #4 beating the #1 in the first round. Polk II was .500 in making the CWS in his last 2 seasons, but that didn't mean he had a good program going.

The numbers should have been from 1999 forward only(the institution of a 64 team field)

96, 97, 98 were still 48-team regional fields, and it stands to reason that most of the mediocre SEC teams that got left out did so in these 3 years.

Since 2003(the limit of the archives on d1baseball.com):

2003
Florida got in @ 13-16
Bama got in @ 14-16
Arky got in @ 14-16
Vandy got left out @ 14-16 due to overall losing record(27-28)
SEC got in 8 teams in.

2004
State got in @ 13-17
Tennessee got in @ 14-16
SEC got 9 teams in.

2005
Vandy left out @ 13-17
Georgia left out @ 12-17
State got in @ 13-16
Auburn got in @ 13-17
Arkansas got in @ 13-17
SEC got 9 teams in.

2006
State got in @ 12-17
LSU left out @ 13-17
SEC got 8 teams in.

2007
Florida left out @ 15-15 due to overall losing record (29-30)
Tennessee left out @ 13-15
Kentucky left out @ 13-16
Bama left out @ 15-15 with overall record (31-26)
SEC only got 5 teams in.

2008
Arkansas got in @ 14-15
3 others in with 15 wins
SEC got 9 teams in.

2009
Vandy got in @ 12-17
Georgia got in @ 15-15
Arkansas got in @ 14-15
SEC got 8 teams in.

2010
Kentucky left out @ 13-17
Bama in @ 15-15
LSU in @ 14-16
SEC got 8 teams in.

2011
Auburn left out @ 14-16 due to overall record (29-29)
Bama in @ 14-16
State in @ 14-16
Arky in @ 15-15
SEC got 7 teams in.

is a helluva lot closer than the stance you and many others have championed that he isnt the right choice, not getting the job done, and is on his way to being fired

What has taken place is extremely close to what I said would happen. What you bumbling Stooges have been throwing out there has been wayyyyyy off

We changed the offense for Russell- he better not fail. I think he will play pretty well this year. Hell, I even predicted he would surpass the great Derrick Taite this upcoming season

There has only been one "non-technicality" team that won 14 or more SEC games since 2003 that did not make the tournament, the 2007 Alabama team at 15-15(31-26), in the worst season for the SEC in the past decade, and I STILL can't really figure out how they were left out.

8 of 10 teams that finished with 14 wins have made the tournament. The two that didn't were left out on a record technicality(non-winning overall record).

4 of 9 teams that finished with 13 wins made the tournament.

2 have gotten in with 12 wins.

An average of 8 SEC teams have gotten in yearly, with a precedence of 9 getting in 33% of the time.

it used to be huge when it was just 32 teams pre 1999. Since they expanded itto 64 teamsand added the "Super Regional" -I just dont think its very hard to make a regional . Usually 8-9 SEC teams get togo every year, so all you have to do is finish in the top 75% of the league to make it. Who really is competetive in college baseball anyway besides the SEC + ACC + state of Texas + state of California? I just dont get howyou can sit here and brag about making a regional. When we start hosting regionals again, thats whenyou can start bragging ...

SEC gets 9 this year. 100%. See no way around it.

I was concerned until I looked at the other traditionally powerful leagues. ACC only has 6 teams above .500 and no more knocking on the door. Big12 has 5 teams .500 or better in conference and no more even close. Pac-12 has 6 above .500 with Washington 2 games below. That's only 17 bids from leagues that traditionally put 20-24 teams into regionals.

These 4 leagues traditionally make up 28-32 bids, or an average of 7-8 apiece. The amount that the other leagues are down allows the SEC to easily get in the 9th team. By the time you talk "bubble" in these other 3 leagues, you've GOT to put Auburn on that same bubble, it's that much separation between the haves and have nots in all the leagues this year.

Aaron Fitt agrees on the new Baseball America podcast.

It's funny, I was reading some of my usual SEC boards after the UK game, and saw some Kentucky fans talking about how much they miss Cohen. Even as good as they're doing this year and as much as we're struggling, they realize he's a hell of a coach.

Does the league get 10?

I think MSU is safe and in

However, if Auburn wins its last two and finishes 14-16, so they could be added to that 14-16 group that does not get in

I like Cohen but if we lose our last four games then we would be 32-25. That does not just scream "hey we deserve a regional". I think we still need to win at least 1-2 more to be completely confident.

and that is 1 team in the last 9 years

In today's SEC, 14 wins gets you a bid. Just like last year, and LSU didnt.

When a 14 win SEC team gets left out- you let me know. Until then- just accept that I was right once aGAIN

Auburn isn't going to win the next 2 against Florida anyway... but if they did, it could be interesting. They'd definitely state their case in that situation...
