I'm not saying this is an apples-to-apples comparison...
but the last time we had a big-time up-and-comer defensive coordinator who left for a much more prestigious program, that guy fell flat on his face and can't even get a head coaching job now at small schools.
If Collins goes to FSU and has a great defense... how much credit will he really get? All of those players are from the previous regime and it could be perceived that he just walked into a good situation.
However, if he takes our defense next year and improves upon what we did this year, he'd be in line to get a head coaching gig pretty easily at just about any non-BCS school and maybe even a few BCS schools.
If the money is too good, then I can't really blame him. But if he leaves in an effort to eventually get a head coaching gig, he might be making a mistake.
Hope he stays, though. He's a helluva coach.
