Seth Davis<s>@</s>SethDavisHoops Rodney Hood has been killin' it in practices. Duke will be preseason number 1 next year. Of course we still have this season to play....

I know my opinion is not the popular one but I thought Hood was overated and that's way before he transferred. I'm kinda tough on freshman though. I have trouble ranking potential over actual. I'd probably make a bad GM in the draft because I'd always be taking proven seniors over potential to be great freshman.

Rodney had one of the best midrange jumpers I have ever seen from a freshman. He is the type of shooter that teams set up to shoot. At state however, no one did this and he was wasted. Make no mistake about it, Rodney was very, very good.

Is it any wonder Hood transferred?

1. Sidney was Sidney - lazy, out of shape, unmotivated
2. Bost hustled on the court, but was a cancer in the dorm and in the locker room. Totally poisoned everyone. Did more destruction than many of you realize.
3. Moultrie was supposedly suspended rather than knee tendinitis (nobody can get 100% confirmation of this).
4. Stans let it all happen and is ultimately responsible, because he is the coach and made the big bucks.

I don't have any inside information, but Bost struck me as a guy who would be a good "leader" on a team with good character guys, basically staying amped up and getting them amped up, but with the teammates he had, and the coach he had, he seemed to be pretty damn negative. Basically a front runner. Makes things better when their going good, but doesn't help and maybe makes things worse when they're going bad. But this is based all on body language and the way he played and what he sounded like in very short interviews.

Its pretty obvious that the teams that were successful under Stans...

were ones that ran themselves both on and off the court and didn't need a lot of direction from the coaches. Look at the 2004 team, you couldn't for a better group of guys both on and off the court that Timmy Bowers, Shane Power, Lawrence Roberts and Brandon Vincent. But in today's college basketball world having guys that talented that also have very good character is much more the exception than the rule.
