Roughly 6 weeks ago the NCAA met with a very close and personal friend of mine ( I wont mention the name) who once played for an SEC team in regard to the recruitment of Cam Newton. As the investigation has now taken center stage, all I can do is verify that money was indeed offered to Newton from no less than 3 SEC schools, and it’s alleged by the NCAA that Newton and or his family took $180,000 to attend Auburn. I know the NCAA personally interviewed my friend for nearly 3 hours one month ago in regard to this investigation. His words were this from an NCAA investigator. ” This is not going to end well for Auburn University”.>>>> I will talk more about the details of this investigation in chat on Thursday night at 8 pm.>>>> People have been asking about the Chronological order of this NCAA investigation. Below is what I know to be fact. >>>> 6 weeks ago The NCAA interviewed MSU associates at a Jackson MS Hotel about the recruitment of Cam Newton. Newton was set to attend MSU and was released of his scholarship by Florida coach Urban Meyer. Dan Mullen was going to take Newton at MSU and there was an understanding that Newton would indeed play for the Bulldogs. About 3 weeks before signing day, Newton was approached by associates of the University of Tennessee and offered 150 K to play football for the Vols. Auburn entered the discussion and according to Newton’s father had been offered the sum of 180K to attend Auburn. This was communicated to Miss State Heach Coach Dan Mullen and several associates close to the Miss State program. Mullen was outraged by the development’s as was Head Coach Urban Meyer at Florida and it was Meyer and Mullen who eventually turned Auburn in to the NCAA . It was apparent that to them, Newton’s signing with Auburn was indeed questionable. This story was told to the NCAA 6 weeks ago in Jackson MS. As far as any Auburn officials or coaches that are involved that I will not say. I will say the name of Trooper Taylor has NOT been mentioned any of the information that I know as of right now. There is much more to this story as you can imagine. This is not going to turn out well for Cam Newton or Auburn. And once again. CAM Newton was NOT out pimping his services but it appears that his father ( based on my information) was.>>

Newton was set to attend MSU and was released of his scholarship by Florida coach Urban Meyer.

Newton was coming from JuCo and didn't need any type of release from his scholly at UF. The above makes me believe the author of the initial post doesn't know what he's talking about.

I just worry that the messenger (MSU) will be the one that somehow ends up getting shot.

I see no way the SEC will allow one of the step children to turn in one of the Big Boys.

He says three schools offered money, then doesn't share any details on when or how much we offered.

I have thought that it would be a non issue for Meyer. Although if he could stabb Kiffen in the back he would do itin a second. This is asuming that this was turned in before Kiffenleft for the left coast which I think it was. There must be an invisable paper trail if Auburn is willing to continue to play him. I know that they have nothing to lose but the hammer will come down much harder since they are still playing him. The thing that I really hate is for Cam. I hate it for Cam becaused he got pimped out by his own father. I think that Tony Barnhart summed it up right.

what about the timeline we've been hearing? If the story about John Bond reporting it to Byrne in mid Dec is true, then we couldnt have turned Auburn in, we turned in the agent and Cecil.

But Im sure we'll get screwed somehow.

I think just because you transfer doesn't mean your instantly taken off scholarship. Maybe, UF hadn't released him yet even after his year at Blinn.

I remember Derek Dooley threatened NOT to release Bryce Brown from UT, even after he sat out a year to transfer to KState.

Transferring from UT to K-STate is not remotely the same thing as going to JuCo after year 1 at a D1 four year university.

After reading all this Sxxx its like watching 60 freaking minutes. Stay tuned for Thursday night, Myer letting him go (I'm like other poster I thought after 1 year out of football you could go anywhere) but I do remember something about scholarship and coaches being able to control that. Third school, didn't he say three SEC schools. Maybe it was the Bears (Hah) oh they got the thief from Oregon instead.

Auburn must of Hired investigators to flush this out or they are the dumbest SOB's on earth. Their probation will make USC's look like child's play...

Someone give us a update on Friday. Who is Morley Safer....

Newton was eligible to play immediately at JUCO, but that doesn't mean he was released from scholarship at Florida right away though. If the former school doesn't release the kid from scholarship, he can't get on scholarship at another school for 1 year. In other words he has to pay his own way.

I think Meyer might have left Newton on scholarship, even after Newton transfered from Florida, to prevent him from transferring straight to another D1 school and being on scholarship there.

It very well might have been last December before Meyer finally released him of his scholarship at UF.

No investigator would ever, ever, in a million years say something like that to someone he was interviewing.

Newton was set to attend MSU and was released of his scholarship by Florida coach Urban Meyer.
As others have pointed out, and despite the extreme rationalizations of 57Strat, Newton did not need a release to sign with any school. His year at Blinn WAS his year to sit out. Urban Meyer couldn't have any more denied Newton from playing for anyone this fall than I could.

Meyer just left him on scholarship to ensure that he did indeed to go to JUCO and not enroll straight at UT or where ever. If he did go to another school, he'd have to pay his own way. It's not that uncommon, especially if a kid leaves on a bad note.

A coach can leave a kid on scholarship for up to a year to prevent him from going on scholarship at another university. It would not have any bearing on where the kid signed after JUCO.

My point is that that one line doesn't completely discredit that entire post.
