Quicker and more athletic than I remember them. The passing, shooting and ball movement were fun to watch. Pretty basketball.

I noticed Givens picked up his 2nd foul with nearly 12 minutes to go in the first half; now a coach would have sat him the rest of the half. Givens ended up scoring 16 of our last 18 Points before halftime.

Gosh. This dates me, but this is the first game I remember watching from start to finish as a kid! Before this game, I'd never heard of Duke.

I remember watching that game at a friend’s house along with some buddies. He lived in a double-wide and when James Lee dunked the last shot before the final horn sounded the guy who had invited us got so wound up and excited that he jerked one of his loafers off his foot and threw it into the ceiling which resulted in a hole where it struck. Then he took a few steps and screamed something like “Yeah!!!!!!” and punched his front door and left a dent in it.
Of course we were all slightly intoxicated by the time the game was over but he sure got about as close to reaching sports ecstasy as anyone has ever been, lol.

What's with Duke having RED in their unis and warm-ups?

Talk about a tight whistle. I mean, daaaaaamn. Watch to the first TV timeout. 7-8 fouls called, and I'm not sure a single one of them would be considered a foul in today's game. However, the whistles do seem consistent, and you don't see the players or coaches beefing with the refs too much about it.

Anyone wondering why the game of that era was much more wide-open, with a lot more shots and points than today (despite no shot-clock or 3 point line), this is Exhibit A.

I was 16 years old at the time, and this was my first U.K championship. When James Lee slammed down that dunk, and the final horn sounded, I ran around the house screaming my head off, lol.

I've still got a scrapbook I made during the season, and I still enjoy taking it out and looking through it from time to time.

That was such a well balanced, mature and talented team, and I though Coach Hall did an incredible job with them.
