a hoax, the family should be forced to reimburse every cent spent by every emergency responder to track and chase the balloon. I think something similar happened to that chick who faked her own disappearance a few years ago because she got cold feet before her wedding.

I stand corrected. Maybe they threatened reimbursement at first...or maybe I just made that up.

"Never work with children or animals"
You'd think these nerds/attention whores would know that by now.

As for paying for the emergency response, in Colorado you can get charged for your own mountain rescue if it turns out you ignore safety warnings and were just being a moron (I think). So surely this would count for something like that, too.

Wilbanks' repeating of the false claims to investigating officers resulted in a felony indictment of giving false information to police, a charge that could have resulted in up to five years of imprisonment. On June 2, 2005, Wilbanks pleaded no contest to the charge. As part of her plea bargain, she was sentenced to two years' probation and 120 hours of community service and was ordered to pay $2,250 in restitution to the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department. Also as part of the deal, a misdemeanor charge of filing a false police report was dismissed. Wilbanks' record will be expunged if she successfully completes probation.
