Preston Smith's last game at MSU. Hear he's strongly considering making an early jump to the professional football.

Everyone gets to make their 'own' decisions ...

Preston Smith's last game at MSU. Hear he's strongly considering making an early jump to the professional football.

But, if he does go early, it has 'fail' written all over it.

Don't get me wrong, I think he is extremely talented DE with a bright future BUT at this point, there are 30-40 DEs coming out this year that are way more experienced and 'ready' to go to the next level.

Cox 'proved' he was ready by his actions on the field and was doubled a lot.

No matter what, wish him luck going forward.

Bad move on his part. I do think he's professional quality, but he should work with turner one more year. I do wish him the best if he moves on. He's one of my favorites on the team

Now you're just embarrassing yourself...

I love it when dumb people try to act smart**

Yeah -- our 2 year leading returning sack and tfl guy -- no big deal. We will just plug and play like we did when McPhee left here**

We will be fine losing Autry. Losing Smith also would be a huge blow.

You really need to learn how to use the sarcasterisks. I think you actually do like it when dumb people try to act smart, but when you put the sarcasterisks there, it means you don't.

Agreed. It's a big loss if he leaves. I think Jones' future is inside. It would put us with AJ Jefferson and Ryan Brown/Torrey Dale at DE. That isn't a great thought.

I know we're after the former UF signee - Reed - out of JUCO. If Smith leaves, Reed might become the most important recruit for this class.

I think he's got a ton of potential in the NFL. But I think he could put up ridiculous stats playing on the same line with Jones next year. Plus this is going to be an extremely veteran defense next year. We'd have three legit NFL players in the front 7 with Smith, Jones, and McKinney.

We lose Autry, Skinner, and Whitley. And they all get replaced with reasonably experienced players. I guess replacing Whitley is the biggest question mark. Market, Hughes, and Arrington should all be solid safeties if they can all be healthy.

Reed is a DT...http://247sports.com/Player/Jarran-Reed-16858

I agree about Jones mostly staying inside. Which is why I feel alot better about our future at DT regardless of Quay/James than I do about DE...

I think Jefferson can actually replace Autry without too terribly much drop-off -- but replacing Preston is something else entirely IMO. He's been arguably our best/most consistent DL the past 2 years. He does very well in the run game and is above average in getting to the QB when need be. It's interesting that practically every time we notice a busted outside contain, it's been Autry all year.

We've got the JUCO DE from Texas that's coming -- and maybe he can step into the role -- but it took Pernell almost a year to adjust to SEC speed and it doesn't appear that Autry really ever has...

I used them properly in this case. Nothing enjoyable about being called out by an idiot -- in attempt to derail a rare, productive thread that's a pretty good read.

My question is -- do we go alot more 3-4 next year? We won't have what I'd call a true rush end on roster -- and we'll be loaded at the LB position -- with a few guys that could actually fill the nose guard role to make that defense work. Ideally, Nick James would get his sh*t together because he fits that role perfectly -- but I fully realize that's a pie-in-the-sky hope at this point...

Damn. Dont know why I was thinking Reed was a DE.

There are some frigging good statistical options dangling out there in JUCO right now... Alot of which aren't high "star" guys that should be easy to flip.

Gipson is a composite 78 with no BCS offers most likely to end up with Hud at this point...
I can find basically nothing on Demond Tucker at this point. Probably a freshman...
DJ Pettway is a 4*(24/7) that is pretty highly recruited, but shows no MSU offer and is most likely headed to FSU.
Nothing on Lazarus Shelby -- probably a freshman...
DJ Jones also a freshman at EMCC...

Nick

getting his **** together just aint gonna happen. I expect him to transfer after this year. JSU probably will suit him better.

From what I've heard, James is more likely to be on the team next season than quay. My source is a guy on message boards though so take it for what it's worth...
