blimp shot = crowd "fail"??? (EDIT: by 11 the crowd showed up and filled in nicely)

(** DISCLAIMER - this was at 9AM not an easy time for a lot of fans to get to that part of Philly...not near campus...not a residential area...barely any free parking...not talking about the "signs" or the "costumes" or the "background," either, just the pure # of fans who were there to open the show...not a "rip" on Temple fans, either...)

Looked like a decent crowd from my angle, sounds loud too. The Liberty Bell/Independence Hall backdrop is great. I loved one sign in particular: " Comcast Sucks ' ! lol.

Looked to me like maybe 1500 fans tops. Great "background," no doubt, but far from campus and residential areas.

not so sure that RU would do well for a gameday, just my opinion

anyhoo I am going to cringe today reading the posts from RU fans rooting for Temple and throwing rose petals at their feet. Nothing good comes of it. Long term yes Temple isn't an issue for RU...short term with this coaching staff and recruiting you bet they are

Has nothing to do with being "happy" or them, or not, they earned this, just looks like a lousy crowd. Probably 3x as many fans at JMU last week. Notice how "thin" the crowd is as they were scanning through? Again, just not an easy place to get a lot of fans to by 9AM, probably will fill up a little better over the next hour or two.

Disagree, but classic RU fan negative attitude. Temple has a good showing and has about 1/3 of our fan support and 1/2 student support. Plus it would be on our campus.

Looked good to me. Lots of costumes, great signs, the architecture looks great. The first shot include a couple Rutgers fans. One had a sign critiquing Lee Corso's "candy bar." The other had a milk carton ad for Schiano, asking for him to be returned to Rutgers if found.

Still disagree that this is a "good showing," they've had 7-8,000 fans for the North Dakota State Game Days, but AGREE that RU would have huge support, due to the fact that it would be on campus. Big, big, big difference.

our fans tend to be selfish, I see the tailgating thing interfering with going to this. We have heard the students don't want anything to do with events that do not serve alcohol. Considering access to where they would do this(somewhere near the stadium) would be tough to get to call me skeptical. We didn't even have more than 20 fans show up for Big 10 show and our attendance at the Scarlet Walk isn't good at all

I tend to agree with Bac. RU is a "different" fan base.

I think one thing we'd all agree on is that we can only hope RU does something in the future to earn a Gameday.

I think RU could get a good turnout, but I'd hope they'd set up on Voorhees Mall or somewhere else near College Ave and not by the stadium.

Thank God for the "magic" of the DVR. LOUSY crowd, to open the show, as I thought:

That is lousy. The overhead shot they did right before the Rhule interview looked like a lot more people have arrived since

Comparing a GameDay on campus (JMU) to a GameDay off campus for Temple (and not even near the stadium) is ridiculous (and being petty). I don't care that it's Philly. We would have a similar turnout if it was by the stadium. GameDay is usually close to dorms or stadiums.

if we were ranked or undefeated like Temple, the place would be a mad house. Don't forget 2006. If the Louisville game was a Saturday, our game day atmosphere would have been crazy.

I agree. ESPN doesn't care about "Temple," otherwise they would have had it on campus, this was all about ND/Temple and "Independence Hall," and the producer in the truck realized, after that shot, "no bueno" because I'm not sure if they're showed a full-panoramic view, from the air, since.

Everyone loves an underdog story, besides this is the city that birthed Rocky.

Did not appreciate the "Irish Need Not Apply" sign though.

I would agree with this if gameday was here for a 3:30 game...

Don't see how tailgating would interfere for an 8 o'clock game.

Do most people start tailgating before noon? Doubt it.

because it doesn't fit his narrative. It's a huge crowd and Corso just said the biggest one ever.

Ha ha ha ....STOP RIGHT THERE MY FRIEND...this isn't even close to being one of the biggest crowds ever. He's talking about the crowd at the stadium for the game tonight. They've had 5,7,10,15,000+ fans in the past both in-and-out of stadiums, for GD.

JUST LOOK AT THE PICTURE!!

Sorry, left to go show some condos, but if you noticed I CLEARLY state that I'm talking about the opening of the show.

Again, I'm not putting the fans down, I'm putting ESPN's choice of location down, it just wasn't an easy access area for most fans, who already have to get to a stadium later today, it's a pain no doubt!

Really good showing, just left there. To the guy walking around decked out in RU gear and walking his dog (who was wearing a Rutgers jacket): well done, sir!

Probably White Bus ( and I guess it's all what the individual considers a "good" showing...).

sounds like someone is jealous ....

Shouldn't you be a game day instead of posting on the message board? I just got another quick glimpse, at the condo I'm showing, completely unimpressed with the crowd. If I get a chance later I'll post a picture taken at 10:50.

Apparently you have serious reading comprehension issues, too, because I've already stated that this has nothing to do with Temple, or it's fans, but instead the choice of location by ESPN.

"This is the best venue and the biggest crowd we ever had." _ Lee Corso
"How about the Temple faithful? They've really done their job. This is a great crowd. _ Sam Ponder

I guess you know than them. Yeah, right.

Corso might have to get his glasses checked, if he thinks this is the biggest game day. Didn't catch the comment during the broadcast.

Pictures don't lie. Also, in just seconds, I found the following:

Mizzou - 18,000
Nebraska - 15,800
James Madison - 12,000
ND State - 9,000

....so, yeah, not even close.

You have to also consider that the camera shows back to Independence Hall, but a ton of people are on 5th and 6th, on Market, at the Dow building and visitors center. It's a cool scene. It's going to be sloppy later on tonight, though.
