I've already gotten numerous PM's from people wanting to help, one setting up a meeting with a big donor, and others that have emailed Strick. Keep it up people- we can do this!!!

Just curious, what does JSU have to say about this? That would be important since they own the stadium now.

I have been down at Disney World for the last week and havent been able to post, but I did read your blog about this the other day. Ive been saying this to my State friends for a few years now. I agree with your blog post 100%. There is zero reason in the world to play @Troy or @S.Alabama EVER. Playing those "away" games in Jackson makes so much more sense.

JSU runs the stadium. Basically the City of Jackson turned it over to them. Consider JSU as the "property manager". Anyone can "rent" the stadium.

is Memorial still a dump like Legion Field, or have they updated it, at all?

Also, what is the economic advantage of playing in Cracksonafrica vs Starkville?

Been there, done that, it sucked!

What's funny to me is most of the people that dont want the game in Jackson- didnt go to Troy and have no intention of going to Mobile or Ruston.

Complain about tailgating in Jackson? Well, where the hell will you tailgate at South Alabama- somebody's front yard????

You cant please everyone- but this has excited ALOT of people already

Does playing USM fall into this category?

I'd love to be able to get away from playing in Hattiesburg, but then again, I'd love to go in there and beat them at their own place. Highly doubt they'd be agreeable to moving the game to Jackson. Plus, they have a good enough atmosphere that our players would probably get up for the game.

Also, I don't mind playing at UAB, Tulane or Memphis. Even Mobile....doesn't hurt to get recruiting exposure there. And we stand no chance to losing to South Alabama.

it would be for "away" OOC games. Troy, Ruston, Mobile, etc - those stadiums are no better. This isnt just for the fact of having a game in Jackson for MSU, this will help the marketing of "OURSTATE". Can you imagine the economic impact for Jackson by doing this? Plus, it will allow for more recruits to see the team play. This whole thing has awesome written all over it.

I'm East of Troy about 2-1/2 hours ... I went to the game, and I wont go back to Troy (or Memphis) ... I would be much more likely to go to Jackson than those places again ... in fact I WON"T go back there

Starkville is not an option- why cant people understand this???? The school has a signed contract to play @South Alabama and @ La Tech. The school would not be involved in buying the game- this would be a private business venture to make money, help Jackson, and help the football program not to gave to play an away game

If I remember correctly, the suggestion a couple of years ago was to move a HOME game to Jackson. This is an away game. I stand by my original rant in years past. I think this is a good idea

They put some money into renovations a couple of years ago. It's still a dump, but not nearly as bad as Legion Field. Nobody's talking about moving any games from Starkville to Jackson. This is about trying to find someone to move a road game from Mobile or Rustin to Jackson. As long as we have to do 2-for-1s to get 7 home games, I'd rather play the road game in Jackson than in some other team's home stadium.

another question:

My Bad, guys... I just now caught up... yall are gonna buy "away" OOC games. that makes perfect sense to me but begs the question.

Why are yall playing OOC teams like that on the road, anyway?

If I can get in and out before sundown, I'm all for it...I would have paid twice the ticket cost to keep from going back to Troy.

Because we can't afford to buy out a road game or buy a non-return game. Go figure.

It's a lot less expensive to do 2-for-1s than to buy home games outright. We are doing some buy games, but we're also doing some 2-for-1s to save money like several other mid-level major conference schools. Hell, even Texas had a game at UTEP and Tennessee had one at Wyoming (that was later bought out and moved to Nashville, but it was still Wyoming's home game). I suspect that as more of the major conferences move to 9-game schedules, the price of buy games will quit skyrocketing and we'll do away with the 2-for-1s and replace them with buy games.

Coach, what tentatively scheduled game(s) are you wanting to move? I'm assuming that UAB (2013) is too soon. Then there's USA (2014). It would be a bad move for them to move a home game vs an SEC school. They're trying to build tradition. Then you've got USM (2015). I'd much rather try to move that game to NOLA.

I like your idea in theory. I'd like to go to a closer/more desirable location when we play these OOC away games. But I would go back to Troy over Jackson.

Have you ever been to Ladd stadium in Mobile? Worse location than Memorial stadium in Jackson..plus just an oversized high school stadium. And I live in the greater Mobile area. Have NO intentions to going to a game in Ladd stadium!

It seems to me that this game would be similar to the yearly basketball matchup in Jackson. I've never been to that game, and I live in Madison. However, I always travel to Starkville a couple of times a year to go to a basketball game. Does this game really help out Jackson? Does this game really get us more recruits? I doubt it.

Also, I feel like the JSU stadium and surrounding area is much worse than the coliseum (my opinion is based on the Colts/Saints game). You have to park, in what I consider, a very dangerous area.
If we did this, it would have to be done right, or it will be a disaster. The margin for error is small. Lots and lots and lots of security is needed, and there will still be problems with security.

I'm not saying I'm totally opposed to this, but I'd much rather just play this "buyout" game in Starkville than in Jackson.
Also, to your point, I would go to this game, but I did not go to any other away games the past 2 seasons.
I probably won't be driving though. Hitch a ride, or call a cab. I'm not leaving my car out there.

You're in a boat by yourself there pal.......

I never want to go back to Troy. And Jackson isn't that bad. We must have some elitist pricks as fans.

I'm thinking that the targeted games are @ USA in 2014, @ Southern Miss in 2015, and @ Louisiana Tech in 2016. Probably the only one that has a prayer of happening is the Louisiana Tech game in 2016.

If you haven't noticed, crime is everywhere even in Madison. Lock your car, don't leave anything in clear sight and you will be fine. I live in Jackson, and I am proud to call it home. I have several friends that live near the stadium in Fondern and they seem happy there.

The USM could be looked at to see if the Nasty Bunch would consider it

No chance of getting anything in New Orleans- what New Orleans businessmen would want to spend money on that? No way they could get a return on their investment. State vs USM would draw 25-30K there and cost out the *** to put on. No way the Superdome could be rented- the game would have to be played at a local HS or something to make money.

thanks for the clarification, Pat... Other than that wacky game at Duke (as a favor to Cut) a couple years ago, and some Neutral Site games, I just couldn't remember Bama doing it and didn't realize it was that common.

Who`s going to guarantee that game day stadium management and logistics (traffic etc) will be done correctly ? Looks like you`re going to be relying on a bunch of really inept people to handle a potentially large crowd. All the ingrediants for a CF. Uhhh pass.

You live in Mobile but wouldn't go to Ladd & watch State play?

and Ladd is nothing great but it's not that bad of a stadium. Good enough for the Senior Bowl every year! The worst part of Ladd is parking.

Also, I think our fans would really enjoy staying in downtown Mobile.... not exactly the French Quarter for a Tulane game/weekend but still a nice place to hang out.

I live in Madison too and you're an idiot. The Jackson game does help us a lot in basketball. Every top recruit in the metro area is at that game every year. I wouldn't hesitate to go to a game at either the Colisium or the Vet. Just take your car. It will be fine.

How can you pass judgement before you even know what we have in store?

We are not just going to have the game at the stadium and say "show up". This is going to be a well-planned event. We know the problems of the past and will have some answers on how to fix them before 2014

Not sure it's a good idea to play in Jackson. (1) we would get no support for the game from the Jackson City Council; (2) We would get no support from the Jackson TV stations (3) The area of the stadium isn't that safe anymore.

South Alabama should be low on the priority list to move.

South Alabama in 2014
La Tech in 2016

I'd prefer to focus on the places we play that are in **** towns with no recruiting value and/or are potentially dangerous places to play. La Tech would be a great one to move. **** town, not sure it really helps recruiting the area, and a potentially tough game.

USM would be good to move just because it would remind recruits of the difference between playing in the SEC v. the CUSA, but otherwise it would probably be nicer to play in Hattiesburg and I suspect the crowd will be split regardless.

USA is decent town, an area where we don't get a ton of exposure otherwise, and an easy win (hopefully), I'd just as soon keep it there unless it was the only feasible one to move.
