Would you agree that defense is in large part playing hard. Especially when your team is undersized.

SHU as regards giving up PPG is one of the best teams in the country. How can that be if the team is giving up?

It definitely is. For some reason it seems they try harder in the 2nd half. I’ll just say that the overall quality of our team effort has changed since the start of the season.

The answer to that is we’re beating up on bad teams. Both out of conference and now in conference. We have 1 high quality win all season. It is what it is, it’s better than losing.
Then how come the Big East is a top five conference in the country? Maybe the answer is that SHU and the Big East are better than you think.

To think anyone has given up or gives up is insulting.

So you’re seeing the same effort we had in Maui and against Rutgers. Against UConn? Absolutely not. You’re BS’ing yourself
I think you're confusing results with performance.

Yes, the team was playing better earlier in the season. But it has nothing to do with not working hard on the court and giving up.

Teams as the season progresses have much better scouting info. Meaning pure talent will trump just effort. Much of what worked for our overachieving players is not working now. We are continuing to win some game on just effort outworking our opponents.

That formula will only take you so far and that's why our average Big East talent is at .500. Certainly not because we are giving up.

Explain then how this group is still among the top 50 in the nation?

We won because of an all time great game by 1 player. Williams and Fischer have 100% given up. As soon as AJSM sees his shots not go in he also gives up. Hines’ effort is no where near the level it was in the beginning of the season. I stand by what I see and said.
Aj has 18. How is that giving up??

I don’t know how we will finish, but some posters on this thread are just ridiculous. How can someone say that guys have quit? If they came out tonight and got run over by PC then I would buy that. But exactly the opposite happened. They survived a non sustainable shooting half by PC, then just wore them down in the 2nd half. That’s effort, not guys quitting.
Cause cats so clueless about hoops but since they scream at the tv thinking someone hears them they know all.

Really it’s because we got 2 heavyweights carrying the conference. Very similar to how the WCC is always up there because a team like Gonzaga carry’s it. There’s a lot of conferences that don’t have that big dog. We have 2. The big east by default should be top 5. In a good year we should be right there with the big 12, big 10 and sec.

2 teams in the top 25 rankings is a terrible year for the big east. Only 4 teams within the top 75 NET is a terrible year for the big east. We all get it that would be an amazing year for most conferences, for example the MAAC. We don’t have MAAC expectations. 70% of our conference road games as of today are not quad 1 games. Which means 70% of our conference home games are quad 3 games. What the big east is this year vs what the big east should be is not good. expectations should be most of your road games are quad 1 games. Expectations are most games are a chance to bolster your resume. That’s just not where we’re at. By big east standards, having the 5 the place team having a NET of 80 is bad.

Payne did a few things good in the final 3 minutes but he did a lot of bad. I would never ever have him in the game in the last 3 minutes:

He can't make free throws so he is an obvious candidate to foul in a close game.
He has butter fingers and will not hold on to the ball as evidence of numerous times the ball went off his hand and out of bounds.
He can be all alone under the basket and has the ball just fly out of his buterfingers as he is going up for the decisive score.

23 minutes last night= 0 points, 0 free throws and 0 assists and 1 turnover (although he butterfingered the ball about 6 times that could have been called turnovers! Yes 7 boards and 3 blocks but really folks who was he up against? Godswill could have played in his place and gotten the same results given the competition.

Yes he can block shots and rebound but so can Hines and Godswill. I would rather either of them be in the game with 3 minutes to go.
