Mod note: please be respectful of the players and refrain from personal attacks. No profanity, stick to the game. Enjoy!

Hines looks good but tough to judge because he's a complete mismatch vs st. peter's guy

My halftime take (only a half against a crap opponent, so I don't want to get too crazy).

I almost shed tears with us going 18/23 from the line in the first half.

Love we are pressing. No clue if it will hold up against high majors, but we need to do this against every low major or mid major. Foul trouble will be the concern as SPU was in the double bonus with just under 5 minutes left. But this team still needs to do it.

What Dan said about the pace seems to be holding up. Again, a positive sign.

Clark is already far better offensively at PG than anything we had last year. He might be half the defender Dual was, so jury out there.

Fisher at the 4 against these low majors works. Against high majors -- jury far from out. I think we might have to play Hines and Payne together in the league, but that will depend on matchup.

My man Hines, who I broke coming here last February/March, is a man amongst boys against the SPUs of the world, and we are actually smart enough to feed him (another positive sign compared to last year). He is going to cause a lot of angst this offseason.

Enjoy Hines. If this is any indication of his game, he’ll be gone after this season.

SP is awful. Look at the SH stat sheet. Starters & bench basically equal in scoring stats. Starting 5 rebounding and assists stats are mediocre. Best team stat is FT %!

Really happy with the outcome tonight and frankly some of the glaring differences from last year.

You can only beat who’s on your schedule and we did what we were supposed to. Box checked.

For those pondering about the opponent, St Peter’s was picked preseason 11 out of 13 in the MAAC. As a comparison, the preseason MAAC favorite Quinnipiac lost by about 40 to St John’s tonight and based on the box score Pitino played his second unit almost as many minutes as the starters.

It’s not just the better skills that are out there, this team’s IQ is all around better. They seem to understand spacing, help defense, recognize how to attack a zone and move without the ball.

That alone is incredible after last year.

Add in the fact they seem to be able to protect the ball and shoot free throws.

How simple fundamental play just makes watching them so much better.

Agreed. I'm not trying to get too crazy for my own sake, but everything just looked better. Like actual basketball. Only 8 TOs too. Having Clark helps, but not too much out of control stuff by the others tonight. And give me one Hines over 7,000 "Baby Jokic's" and "Baby Mamu's".

So what? No one is saying SHU is looking at Top 25 votes next week, but it felt like I was watching real basketball again.
Ok. Enjoy it while you can. Some major programs & BE schedule may change your mind. Predict it will be a very long season. Hope I’m wrong.

Did you watch the game or just look at a box score? Again, no kidding that there will be plenty of losses. But the team was actually watchable last night. After the debacle of last season, that’s what people are reacting to. Not looking ahead to a game where they might get blown out in January.

Great game and every "W" is a great one. There are many more games that need to be played before we can judge if this season will be better. It looks promising after the first game.

Oh and finally seeing Mbaye get in a game was a plus for me. Although I thought he should have gone in at the 5 minute mark!
