Budd has had some good games but is overall disappointing. And worse, he has looked overwhelmed by the defense at this level. Problematic
You can only defy gravity for so long.

Sha better get to work on how to beat a zone.
3 point shot defense is just terrible. Either leaving their feet or a guy gets a wide open look.
Too many missed bunnies and foul shots
Acaden Lewis is a player. Wow.
We need to get back to work. All of our shortcomings hurt us tonight. We aren't built to go head to head in a half-court game, we lack the shooting and the size.

This. Can’t miss a dozen or so layups and put backs and then expend all that energy on defense and expect to win.
Villanova basically let us beat us. They didn’t do much.
After a million or so misses with plenty of open looks your mental state is going to take a toll on defense.
But if you can’t score, you can’t win.
Classic KW move. Let it get to single digits. Small stocking stuffer for Sha.
We didn’t have a clue against the zone.
We really missed Hines this game too. Godswill gave us nothing and Rivera isn’t ready.
This budd for you...he laid an egg team laid an egg...Rivera was leading scorer for most of game shot 33 and 23 not a good slash...but no hines...for some here calm down on expectations and enjoy the holidays

Uh, that was actually the least of our problems tonight. Geez you’re way off.
I don’t think we win even with Hines. It’s not like we go to him in the post for buckets. He’s a defensive presence and put back guy. Same as Payne. Our offense is as out of sync the whole game and Nova played well on the perimeter on offense. Two things Hines has little effect on.
And Rivera had his best game tonight for us.

It was no big deal. Game was over when Clarke got 2nd foul.
I just think you send the wrong message to 10 new Hall players and to the Nova team by playing an adoration of KW video. It’s a frigging competition not an ordination. Just my 2 cents. And I like KW.
It was during warmups. It was not a focus with everyone watching unless you were looking for it.
Lewis used his off arm to protect his dribbling like SGA. SHU played hard not well. Villanova played very hard and well. Their Zone defense and 3 pt shooting were good. One really bad spell 5-10 minutes early in the 2nd half. Our offense was very very poor. Rivera/Fisher leading scorers played hard. Very physical game, missed Hines, Clark not good. Think Villanova should be in top 2 or 3 in the Big East if not, where in trouble.
We were due for a setback.
Next game will tell us if we are ready for the Big East.

You’ve got Clark, Staton-McCray, and Hines basically not playing a half.
We had a horrific shooting day.
What was alarming was how confused we looked.
I think you severely overestimate how much the players on either side of the ball care about that. He's the second best coach we have had in the past 60 years and the video was all of 45 seconds. Not a big deal.
yup. we couldnt make a shot. no one who got the ball could score. Payne only touches the ball at the high post or by accident. it isnt that hard to feed the post. but the gameplan ignored him. payne was 1-2, clark 1-11.
kw won the battle on both sides.

come on. we were down 4 at the half. clarke was playing with 2 fouls as the 2nd half started. but he played poorky
What you’re failing to see is what Hines does besides the box score.
Our offense was off because we missed put backs. Who’s the best at that? Hines.
Hines also has a decent paint game when he gets the ball. He demands double teams and that frees up other guys.
Hodge had essentially carte Blanche to do what he wanted. Just forcing Hodge to have to switch off and cover him some of the time would have worn him down.
The entire flow of the game changes if Hines plays more alongside Payne.

I believe this is spot on, your point about the next game being a window into the rest of the season. There was some talk about winning our first five BigEast games. I thought 3 was realistic. Still an excellent chance for 3 maybe 4. However, there is now a blueprint to beating Seton Hall out there. I know the Rutger's game had a decent crowd, but your good customers returned tonight, and the team & staff laid an egg.
This was our version of Xavier's recent no-show. We will right this ship.

It’s the missed layups that have become a problem. Payne played 32 minutes and only had 2 shots from the field. inexcusable that we did not execute running anything to get him more involved.
Why wasnt anyone flashing to the foul line against the zone? I was wondering when a team would go zone against us because we do not shoot the three well. McCray needs to flash to the foul line against the zone. Take the shot or pass it to the wings to create space.
But give credit to Nova. Their guards killed our guards. As far as Clark goes, just a horrific night for him In all facets of the game.
