The 1st half will be a big challenge. Team depth will definitely come into play Friday night. Keeping fresh legs will be a big factor. Teams will probably be limited on utilizing 2 way players to the extent they normally would. I know they've been practicing in tough conditions, but playing a game in these conditions will add another element to the game. I can't remember back, but I don't recall a game with this level of heat and humidity. How do you think this could affect the game you're attending?

Hydration should have already started. Salt pills and lots of bananas in the pre game.
But there will still be cramping on both sides. Be safe all.

It will primarily serve to make me cranky. I hate - H-A-T-E - humidity. It's not quite as bad at Salem Stadium for most games, but I remember being wedged in the visitor stands in early-season games at places like Botetourt and Brookville. Sitting there, trying to breathe, sweating like crazy, crammed in among the masses - not fun.

I don't think it will be that big a deal for the players. As you said, they should be pretty well acclimated from practice, and they're young. The coaches will monitor things pretty closely. It seems like the first few games every year are played in conditions like this. If anything, one would think that teams that depend on fewer players to play both ways would have a bit of an edge. Quality depth will be a bonus. To state the obvious, I suppose.

This about sums up my feelings about the humid portions of summer:

Be lucky you all are not down here in Tidewater on Friday. Temp to be 97 with heat index of 108 at 5-6 pm, not much better at 7. This is by far the worst heat this summer in my 21 years here. We should have picked our first game away against Portland, Maine high school.

I'm praying it will be a tad better than that at Maury Field in Fredericsburg for us. I'm checking to see if Alert, NWT, Canada has an opening for the next cycle!

Maybe Mike will let you come visit him in the air conditioned TV studio? Over on the other thread, the talk is about the added items at the Salem concessions. Mike didn't comment because his meals are all catered by the area's top catering service. Shrimp, lobster, and prime rib, I've heard!

I'm hitting a buddy's tailgate. He's slow cooking bbq, one of my favorite meals! I've been craving good bbq for the last few months.
