Garretts Release..... how did he get it

I first of all will welcome Garret to Starkville... **** he's not going to hurt us.<div>
</div><div>But just thinking about the situation made me wonder, what kind of leverage does he have to persuade Les Miles into releasing him. Couldn't the Mad-Hatter just be a douche and say you can go where ever you want, as long as we don't play them. </div><div>

Yeah that's what I'm going with, instead of a black helicopter story about how Garrett has dirt on him. Garrett didn't get **** to go to LSU besides a scholarship, he wasn't even a high priority for them. HE was the one that was lucky to be in that situation.

He didn't have to release Garrett to MSU, but he realizes that Garrett will never play at LSU and that he grew up a huge MSU fan. So he made an exception to allow him to transfer to MSU and not to any other SEC school. I think that's all there is to it. </p>

Recruiting gets greedy, you take all you can get even if you know you'll never use it. Don't let someone get away that could benefit an opponent.

... but Miles just put us one step ahead of any other SEC school with the release. Do any other SEC schools need him?

his scholarship was not renewed and he requested the release. Don't know if he specifically asked about the MSU exception to the no SEC release part of it.

My theory is that Miles is making good on a promise he made while recruiting him. Something to the affect of: Decommit from MSU, come to LSU and if you're not happy after the first year or two then I'll release you to go back to MSU.

I'm not up to date on scholarships but I thought only basketball and baseball were year to year and football was a four year offer for a high school senior. I didn't know you could just not renew a football scholarship unless the player agreed to it or wanted to be released. It looks like they took his scholarship first though.

And it really does suck for the player that after a school has just taken your scholarship away, they can still block you from transferring anywhere they don't want you to. </p>

With Fletch's hypothesis and Dandy Don's comments, it looks like they pretty much came together on the deal. I think Garrett knew he wasn't going to play and Miles gave him an out.

wrong and still has his scholly pulled he should be able to go anywhere and play immeadiately. heck if you kick him cause he's not good enough then why should you care if he plays against you anyway. now if he just decides he doesn't like it and chooses to leave or gets kicked for misbehavior then to me that's another thing.

I'm surprised that you guys don't feel a little slighted by this.

I mean, to a casual observer, this looks like Miles released him to the only SEC school that he felt wasn't ever going to threaten him.

Obviously, that may not be the case, but I think that theory is far more likely than some of the sheep claiming that Miles just had the heart to let him be the Bulldog that he always wanted to be.

It's college athletics. You can never be that nice. Otherwise it'll cost you your job.

Just look at us with Malcolm White.

Obviously, that may not be the case, but I think that theory is far more likely than anything non-biased or realistic.

It's college athletics. You can neverassume someone else in your division isn't a threat. Otherwise it will cost you your job.

Just look at us with Ed Orgeron, Mike Shula, etc.

If he wanted to release Garrett to another SEC school that would never hurt him, they why not Vandy. LSU won't even play Vandy during the years Garrett will be eligible to play.
