Good hire by Godwin & good landing spot. That's a legit program
I'll always be a Gautreau fan. In seven seasons at State:
- CWS 3rd place finish (with an interim head coach)
- CWS 5th place finish
- national title
- regional 2nd place finish
- regional 2nd place finish (with an interim head coach)
Can't wait to watch them chest thump their way to a called third strike repeatedly next year.
He’s been in Starkville for a long time and been a part of some great teams and some bad. Best of luck to him.
ECU should prepare to have a lot of bases loaded with no outs, yet scoreless innings. We had to lead the country in that.
Glad for Jake. Never had a big issue with him and he seemed to be a solid coach who players respected.
Good for him. Lot of folks said he would get a big gig or a head coach gig. I didn't see it considering he never ended up being our interim in transition. His hitting was good to start but fell off. Especially in clutch with runners on base. We may have had gone run record this year but situational base hits his teams just became terrible over time. Some of that is recruiting and not recruiting guys who get on base no matter what
You forgot a last place finish in the SEC followed by a next to last place finish in the SEC.
Godwin has been a name discussed by Univ of Northern MS (he was an asst there before taking the ECU HC gig) fans once they dispose of Bianco, we may end up seeing Jake regularly again
ERA vs. SEC teams:
- 2022 - 7.47 (DFL)
- 2023 - 9.54 (DFL)
We were in the top half of the SEC in hitting both seasons.
*-I'm guessing that was the worst 2-year period. I'd be interested to know if anyone is aware of a worse 2-year period.
I will always root for him. Players loved him, he seemed to love Starkville and MSU. Great person.
